OUT 360--STL TIDBITZ AND MORE!

ITS HUMP DAY-TIME FOR OUTTOWN

IN BREAKING NEWS: As of this writing, The Centene Corporation backed out of the much delayed and controversial Ballpark Village project which explains why former Cardinals Prez Mark Lamping, who helped get Centene on board , resigned last week. For more info go to

AND NOW BACK TO OUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED BLOG:

The big news in the STlL this week was the heavy rains effects on the area. Parts of the STL is still recuperating from all the rains from last week as parts of highways were flooded as well as the Meremac river due to the inches of rain. Floods Road crews worked all last week to clean the mud and mess on Highway 141 left behind by flood waters on the roadway at Interstate 44. Workers started before dawn using snow plows to clear the mud that settled on the highway. But the workers also must adjust traffic signals to make sure the electricity is properly connected to get the signals working. The Mississippi River at Chester, Ill., and Cape Girardeau, Mo. crested early this week The St. Louis County Emergency Operations Center is recommending that residents take precautions when returning to their once-flooded homes. Officials recommend that the homeowners make sure that all utilities are turned off before entering their homes for the first time to prevent electrical shock. Residents should disconnect the main switch and all currents.

Speaking of weather, what was up with the snowstorm this past Easter?

Three St. Louis labor unions are locked out of their jobs at America's Center this week. The St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission says the job action follows more than a year of negotiations for a new agreement with audio-visual technicians. According to ksdk.com, The CVC says costs and customer complaints are at the top of their list and the main reasons they say it's time for a new type of agreement. In the old agreement, audio/visuals are supplied by IBEW AND IATSE, the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees, since they choose the workers for the event. Now the CVC wants all technicians to be CVC employees, although they can still belong to the unions. And they want to end shadowing, a practice they say mandates that customers must hire local techs. But a memorandum of understanding would change that. CVC board member Earl Wilson says race is an issue too. He says there's not enough diversity in the union ranks. Hmm, for some reason OUTTOWN is feelin the shadow of protestor Tauheed Youth Group’s Anthony Shaheed’s tactics coming into the light....................................................

Cory Spinks and his longtime trainer, Kevin Cunningham(SEEN ON THE RIGHT OF PIC NEXT TO SPINKS) , have split. Cunningham won't be working Spinks' corner at Scottrade Center for Thursday night's IBF junior middleweight title defense against Verno Phillips. Cunningham has turned his full attention to the promising Devon "The Great" Alexander (14-0), who will be on Thursday's card, defending his WBC Continental America's super lightweight championship against Miguel Callist. In the past, Spinks and Cunningham have quarreled over Spinks' training habits. OUTTOWN finds it interesting that all this went down after Don King’s promoting the fight a couple of weeks ago in the STL. One wonders of King jabbed more money into Spinks’ ear in regards to managing him. Hmmm. Seems odd all of a sudden.

Former Vashon High coach Floyd Irons was sentenced Tuesday to 12 months in federal prison and ordered to help pay back more than $653,000 in losses to banks. Irons faced 33 months. Basketball organizer and real estate investor Michael Noll, biz partner to Irons, was sentenced to 20 months in federal prison and ordered to help pay back more than $1 million in losses to four banks. The charge was for mail and wire fraud in a real estate scheme prosecutors said was meant to kick back thousands of dollars to Irons and a partner. Irons and another unnamed man bought or arranged the purchase of four houses for $1.6 million, paying significantly more than their market value and falsifying loan application documents to secure the money, prosecutors have said. A mortgage broker -- unbeknownst to the sellers -- then paid Irons and his partners kickbacks from the sale proceeds. Prosecutors say the pair received between $20,000 and $60,000 for each house. Irons, an icon in Missouri high school basketball for over 33 years, won more than 800 games and 10 championships as coach for the St. Louis' Vashon High School boys basketball team. He retired in 2006. From what OUTTOWN, gathered,. The judge that sentenced Irons was teary eyed. Wow. You would think Irons would have been the one in tears, but this is very telling on Iron's public character........................The St. Louis city prosecutor's officer is considering whether to charge an off-duty St. Louis County police officer accused of pulling a gun on a parking lot attendant who told him he could not park where he wanted during a St. Patrick's Day parade. The parking lot attendant said that the officer, who is not being identified by St. Louis city police, tried to park in a lot at a strip mall on 6600 Manchester Road, according to reports. The off-duty officer was trying to park to go to see a parade in observance of St. Patrick's Day. The attendant told police that after he told the officer that he could not park at the mall's parking lot, the off-duty officer announced himself as a law enforcement officer and pointed a small, silver handgun at the attendant. The officer went ahead and parked his car and walked toward Tamm Avenue with a woman who was pushing a child in a stroller. The off-duty officer's vehicle was towed and it was ordered held by police. Police were called to the scene and later identified the officer as working for the St. Louis County Police Department, Jackson said. St. Louis city police have applied for a warrant for flourishing a weapon, Jackson said. The case is under advisement by the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office. OUTTOWN also gathered that there were racial expletives that were communicated to the attendant as well. Oooh, this is about to get heated!................A federal judge in East St. Louis has given his approval to Walgreens' plan to pay $24-million to settle a federal lawsuit alleging racial bias at the nation's largest drugstore chain. According to reports, roughly 10,000 past and present black Walgreens workers will split $20 million under the consent decree given final approval. Attorneys involved in the case will share about $4.5 million in fees separate from the settlement amount. The decree also requires Walgreens to hire outside consultants to review and make recommendations about their employment practices. A Walgreens spokeswoman says the company began putting the decree's requirements in place last July when a judge gave the settlement deal tentative approval. The company, however, still says it did nothing wrong. Good for the working folk on the minimum wage tip. Reparations came early for them fo sho! .....................What was up with a baby wandering the streets of Belleville this week? The mother of a toddler found wandering Monday morning in 40-degree weather wearing only a diaper was charged with child endangerment. Thelma M. Straughter, 28, of Belleville, was charged Monday afternoon with a misdemeanor of endangering the life or health of a child.Police aren't sure how the child got out of the home or whether he left before Straughter left the house to do errands. If convicted, Straughter faces up to a year in prison and a $2,500 fine. Her bail was set at $5,000. She needs to be up under the jail for this one!

Spring is here and you know what that means, baseball time. The St. Louis Cards opening day is March 31. The Cardinals return to Busch Stadium for an Opening Day game against the Colorado Rockies. If you don't already have tickets, you're out of luck, but you can still join in the pep rallies and parties before and after the game. For more info go to www.cardinals.mlb.com/ ...................
In other sports news, this week The St. Louis Rams agreed to terms two players. One is a two- year contract with defensive end James Hall. Hall was released by the Rams less than a month ago, but will return to St. Louis for his second season there. The Michigan product has played eight seasons in the NFL, and joined the Rams in 2007 after spending the first seven years of his career with Detroit. The St. Louis Rams also agreed to contract terms with wide receiver Reche Caldwell. He got a one-year contract. The 28-year-old Caldwell played for the Washington Redskins last year when Al Saunders was that team's offensive coordinator. Saunders now has that job with the Rams...................... If yawl are MetroLinekrs, listen up. Metro will close the Delmar MetroLink station this Saturday and Sunday so city workers can demolish part of the Delmar Boulevard overpass across the rail system's tracks. Metro will provide buses to take passengers between the Wellston and Forest Park stations with a stop at the Delmar station. Staff members will be at each station. Metro will provide normal rail service between Lambert-St. Louis International Airport and the Wellston station and between Forest Park and the Shrewsbury station..............................Kudos to Kinloch, Mo. Native actress Jenifer Lewis who can be seen in the No. 2 flick in the country, "Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns, which raked in 20 million over last weekend. Her role as the drunken daughter Vera was typical Jenifer, comic relief with a serious edge. Her next film will be the drama “Not Easily Broken,” directed by Bill Duke scheduled for release in September.

Two St. Louis native models get the Too Much Playin Award this week. First is model mogul Kimora Lee Simmons. According to mediatakeout.com, it appears that Simmons, who was in her hometown a couple of weeks ago to launch St. Louis Fashion Week and to be honored at Wash U, told what she plans to do with the remains of her recently deceased dog. Here's a direct quote: “There is a company that makes diamonds out of your loved ones. [They] make diamonds from a little of the carbon from the ash, so I might do that. I might turn her into a diamond.” What ever happened to getting your pet freeze dried? Then, locally, a ruckus occurred at the Loft Nightclub last Friday during the Million Dollar Man Contest. For the local socialites in the STL who didn’t hear, there was a right that occurred on stage during the contest involving contest host Flava of Love star St. Lewis (us STLers know her as B. Skye). Things were set in anger mode for Lewis when she started out the contest saying, “Yeah, people thought I wasn’t able to do this shit. Well how you like me now MFers.” Oh oh. Well when the contest started (which was after 2 o’clock Saturday morning) and one of the contestants got on stage, a male heckler asked why he was son stage. Well, he was whisked away from the stage, then returned to the stage. As the heckler kept talking during the second and third contestant on stage, B Skye kneeled down from the stage and cold coked the heckler. Well, the hecklers reaction was to grab her and punch her back! Next thing you know, weave and earrings were flying off her! It got ugly very fast. Before you know it Eye Candy creator Mo Spoon of MPAC got on the mike and said that the show was over. It doesn’t look good for the inaugural Million Dollar Man contest. First one out and this happens? Well, at least the Lofters still had twenty more minutes to party before the club closed. (TO SEE PICS B$ THE MELEE GO TO OUT 358).....................................According to some websites, Joplin, Mo. Native American Idol contestant Asia’h Epperson may get another shot of being part of the Finals on the show. (What did I tell yawl!). See, according to rampant message board postings, five semi-finalists who failed to make the top 10 will return to the American Idol stage for the April 9th Idol Gives Back charity special, and one is Epperson, who came in 14th and was eliminated three weeks ago. She was the sista whose father died two days after she auditioned in Altanta last summer for the show. The five contestants will battle for a wild-card slot on this summer's American Idol concert tour..................................STL businessman Dwayne Randle will be competing in a triathlon in May. Randle is a Team In Training athlete and the organization raised monies for those who are stricken with Leukemia and Lymphoma. For more info, go to
http://www.active.com/donate/tntgmo/tntgmoDRandle That would explain why OUTTOWN spotted Randle puttin the foot to the gas tryin to get in Ballys in Clayton this past Monday 30 minutes before they closed!

Good luck to STL fitness model Fred Williams (SEEN SECOND TO THE LEFT IN PIC) who will be competing in the 25th Annual Romantic Times Book Lovers Competition during its conference April 16-20. Williams is amongst 12 finalists competing in the Mr. Romance competition on April 19 in Pittsburgh. Last year was his first time trying out (which is where the pic came from) Although he he did not place, he got Readers' Choice & Contestants' Choice Last week, Williams did an interview on the Talkshoe radio show Positively Pittsburgh about his being in the competition. To peep it out go to
http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/audioPop.jsp?episodeId=101052&cmd=apop ................An update on STL bodybuilder Derrick Johnson. Unfortunately, he did not qualify for the Olympics trials in Peru last week. But he is not giving up. He will be competing in May 16-17 in Atlanta to quality.......................... Your eyes are not deceiving you but Club KYO on Washington AVE is now called Sugar’s.....................And speaking of clubs, looks like Nubia on Delmar is ready for its soft opening this weekend....................... And thanks for givin me back my rechargeable batteries Ms. Brooks! LOL..........................................And lastly, Happy belated b-day to Yani Co. fashion designer JW Moore.

IN THE MIA(MISSING IN ACTION) FILE —What ever happened to socialite Miss April? MIA FOUND Model Brandon Demps at a b-day party at Home Nightclub a couple of weeks ago. He stays in St. Charles now.

BLIND BITZ—Which radio personality almost told about an afterparty on the radio for an upcoming big event and their co-host stopped the personality in their tracks before they told it? (HINT. The two personalities are local on the FM dial and are not part of a nationally syndicated show. The big event has been coming to St. Louis since the “main attraction” has been a professional.)
