HAPPY THANKSGIVING--EVENT BITZ!

Hello OUTTOWNers!

Well, YOURS TRULY, Ma’at Atkins is goin to give my fans some leftovers before the leftovers get started this Thanksgiving season with some Eventz, a reminder about the YEAR END OUTTOWN blog , and the Best of OUTTOWN 2008 that can be seen in subsequent posts. Hope you have a safe and giving holiday as we focus on what we need to do as a people and as a country in these trying socioeconomic times (But in my eye, everyday is trying, okay?) . True, the Thanksgiving meaning originally was of The Pilgrims pillaging Native Americans, but let’s use this time to reflect on all our blessings as human beings in the eye of the Spiritual One.

Okay, now pass the gravy! LOL

HAPPY TURKEY DAY!

NOTE: STL-TIDBITZ, MIA AND BLIND BITZ, AUDITION BITZ AND HELP BITZ WILL RETURN NEXT WEEK!

THE BEST OF OUTTOWN 2008 (JULY-DEC)

HERE IS PART TWO OF THE BEST OF 2008 (JULY-DEC)

And some here are also definite candidates for the Best Event of 2008.

JULY 2008

LIVE (OFF) THE LEVEE--ANTHONY HAMILTON CONCERT at SOLDIERS MEMORIAL PARK July 5

This was the first of this concert series where the event had to be moved from the Archgrounds to the Jefferson Memorial area due to the flooding issue in the downtown STL area.

Around 5 ish PM, folk were waitin to get in the Park for the concert. They let the folk start comin in around 5:30 p.m.

The opening act was Jefferson City's Gloria Brand whose hour set comprised of many R&B faves including the opening song, Aretha Franklin's "Spirit in the Dark."

Headliner Anthony Hamilton had a spirited performance.
He sang his hits including his last major hit, "Can't Let Go." A few minutes later, he gave a PSA about watching young children and the adults that are around them. "A child can see what you can't see. So, no Santa Claus on the lap, Pappa Claus, or Uncle Claus. Protect them."
They also had a big screen while the concert was going on. A few thousand were watching the concert from it.

Overall the turnout at this concert at Live (Off )the Levee was overwhelmingly packed.
We estimate it had to have been AT LEAST 50, 000 folk there. The additional 30,000 we are sure came from the African Methodist Episcopal church Convention that was goin on downtown.

AUGUST 2008
17th Annual MISSOURI BLACK EXPO at AMERICA's CENTER August 23

The annual event brought out the STL for a weekend of panel discussions, health screenings, shopping and national celebrities.

One of the panel discussions was sponsored by the Gear Up Leadership Program which encourages youth in developing their leadership skills,. Some of the panelists included ST. Louis comedian Joe Torry, singer Nikko Smith and hip-hop DJ Spinderella to name a few.

Singer Will Downing also was interviewed about his ongoing battle with the muscle disease Polymyositis.

Book panelists from the Literary Corner . They also participated in the Hue Man Bookstore book signing for fans.

Panelists included Good Times stars Ralph Carter and Bern Nadette Stanis. Stanis talked about her book, "Situations 101." She as well as Carter also said they will work on a project about their experiences on TV and the groundbreaking show "Good Times."Others book panelists included Downing, former Miss America Kenya Moore and Taj of SWV.

Former Miss USA/actress Kenya Moore spoke about her book, Game, Get Some!

The award winning Matiff Dance Company turned it out as well as The Aalim West Indian Dance team.

FACE OFF Fashion Show was also a highlight that evening which had fashions for lil ones and fashion line EYEKON

Nikko Smith also performed

SEPTEMBER 2008
Majic 104.9's 30th ANNIVERSARY PARTY at THE STARLIGHT ROOM--Sept 6
Hundreds among hundreds came out to celebrate the born day of Majic 104.9 ('nee Majic 108).

Tony Scott Show perosnalities Tammie Holland and Scott ham it up on stage.

Singer Noel Gourdin who performed at the event posed with his #1 fan, Montina Mullen

Headliner Eric Benet got the ladies in a frenzy. He performed hits such as “Femininity,” “Spend My Life with you” and his latest, “You’re the Only One.”

Da crowd

Various rooms at the Starlight Room were ready for the party people to celebrate.

BJ the DJ got out of his tux jacket to cut loose on the mike and the 1s and 2s.

INUAGURAL 95.5 FOXY FEST at FOREST PARK Sept. 13

Despite the forecasting rain and overcast (and subsequent clearing) folk were "all crowded up" at to Langenberg Field in Forest Park for the concert, a first for the station.

The opening acts were part of Cafe Soul.

Its host Coco Soul joined 2007 McDonalds Soul Search Winner Justin Hoskins who performed including his cover of Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give it up."Other acts included Elements of Soul, Shameika Copeland and Lamar Harris and the L
