OUT 584--STL TIDBITZ AND MORE!

HELLO OUTTOWNERS!

ITS WEDNESDAY

TIME TO GET TOWNED!

This just end! We just heard that the Fox Theatre will make an announcement about the legendary music legend Prince will be performing in St. Louis on his b-day June 6. Details TBA!

THIS WEEK IN STL AREA ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT NEWZ:

Although the Mizzou Tigers lost last weekend in the NCAA Top 8, Missouri men's basketball head coach Mike Anderson, has signed a seven-year deal with Mizzou, keeping him on the sidelines in Columbia through the 2015-2016 season. In his third year with the Tigers, Anderson, who was rumored to be going to the University of Georgia, led a team picked by his coaching colleagues to finish seventh in the Big 12 Conference to a school-record 31 wins, the Big 12 tournament title and its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2003. The Tigers advanced to the West Regional final last Saturday before losing to top-seeded Connecticut. In the tournament's third round, Missouri defeated favored Memphis 102-91. The triple-digit scoring total marked a record for points allowed by a college team coached by Calipari, whom Anderson previously competed against in Conference USA while at Alabama-Birmingham.

In other sports newz, former St. Louis Rams Torry Holt made a free-agent visit to Jacksonville last Thursday. It's rumored the Jaguars will offer Holt an incentive-laden deal after the Jaguars have released wide receivers Matt Jones and Jerry Porter since the end of last season. Jacksonville's top wideout currently under contract is Dennis Northcutt, so Holt could step in and be the team's No. 1 target if he signs with the Jaguars. Despite its dire need for receiver help, Jacksonville isn't expected to offer anything close to the $8 million Holt was scheduled to make in St. Louis this season before his release March 13. Meanwhile, former Rams player Orlando Pace, who was released around the same time of Holt, paid a free-agent visit to Baltimore last week but has yet to sign with anyone.

Oscar nominated comedian/actor Dan Aykroyd was in St. Louis a couple weeks ago week to promote his new line of wines.
Aykroyd visited Randall's Wine and Spirits on South Jefferson and signed bottles of his Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay for buyers who had a chance to meet the legendary comic. The wines were made from grapes grown in California's Sonoma Valley. Aykroyd then drove through the teeth of the St. Patrick's Day throng in Dogtown for a sales meeting at the wine's distributor, Missouri Beverage Co. Then it was on to Triumph restaurant in midtown to a private event to promote Crystal Head Vodka for a different local distributor. The public met Aykroyd as he signed bottles of his wine from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. today at Randall's Wine and Spirits, 1910 South Jefferson Avenue. He owns a wine estate in his native country of Canada.

The Repertory Company of St. Louis was the big winner at the fourth-annual Kevin Kline Awards Sunday that was held at the Repertory Theatre in Wesbter Groves. The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis took home the largest number of awards, 10. Five were for “The Little Dog Laughed”; . a sixth went to “The Lieutenant of Inishmore.” “Little Dog” and “Inishmore” were both part of the Rep’s Off-Ramp series at the Grandel Theatre. First time nominees The St. Louis Black Repertory Company, made a splash with a trio of awards for “Sarafina!,” including Outstanding Production of a Musical, Best Ensemble and Choreography for Keith Tyrone.

STL rapper/mogul Nelly is a special guest on the new Bow Wow CD “New Jack City II” that was released this week. The track he’s on is “What They Call Me,” and it’s also includes a more prominently-featured Ron Browz.Nelly’s verse, which comes in the second half of the song, features typical good-time lyrics from Nelly, talking about what he can do for the ladies, while also name-dropping a list of designer tags. The song is produced by Jermaine Dupri, a frequent collaborator of Nelly and Bow Wow’s, and harks back to an old Rick James tune. In unrelated newz, R&B star Ashanti has hinted she will marry her rapper lover Nelly in 2009. Just four months after the couple went public with its four-year romance, the singer has confessed she is planning to walk down the aisle with Nelly. When asked if wedding bells were on the horizon for her, the "Happy" hit maker tells Us Weekly, "Absolutely. It's in the cards for me. I believe that I have a couple more things I need to do before that happens.” Hmm, so we guess Ashanelly will be official soon.

The Belleville News Group is eliminating 30 jobs and reducing salaries at the News-Democrat and its weeklies. The cost-cutting measures are part of an overall plan by the newspaper's owner, McClatchy Co., to eliminate 1,600 jobs across the chain and save more than $110 million over the next year. McClatchy owns 30 daily newspapers, 50 non-dailies and direct marketing and direct-mail operations. In Belleville, the 30 positions that will be eliminated include 12 part-time jobs and three open positions. The reduction is about 9 percent of the company's workforce. Most of the laid-off employees worked through March 27, then received a severance package based on years of service with the company.

Our question was, “Well, is it the truth about Kanecc (which was he got fired from Hood Hop Music for spreadin’ rumors on JKwon)? And Lil Will said YES. And that’s what all we are about-- the truth. CLUB-BITZ. There’s more clubbin goin’ on in the STL area this week. According to reports, Last week, federal, state and local law enforcement called a news conference to ask Parks to require East St. Louis bars and clubs to close earlier. Currently, bars and clubs can stay open until 6 a.m. Some of the 100 or so residents at the meeting said the bars and clubs just bring trouble and should be forced to close earlier. Others said the businesses provide jobs and tax income and that trouble can happen at any time. If a few bad apples are causing trouble, penalize or close them instead of hurting all bars and clubs.
Well, one of those clubs apples is CLUB TV ONE in downtown East St. Louis. Federal agents cleaned out Club TV One in East St. Louis last Friday because they said fraudulent credit was used to buy speakers, bar stools, the velvet ropes and other furnishings. While they were executing their search warrant, they found drugs inside the club. Agents came out of the club about 2 p.m. Friday carrying a large plastic bag of marijuana and drug paraphernalia plus at least 14 large bags and duffels.
By 3 p.m, a local moving company was pulled up to the door and workers were removing the club's furnishings. East St. Louis Mayor Alvin Parks, who is also the city's liquor commissioner, said the club is owned by Robert Williams of St. Louis. The liquor license is issued to a relative of Williams. He said every business licensee in the city must pass a criminal background check. The club for decades had been the Faces nightclub and is near the Fifth and Missouri MetroLink station in downtown East St. Louis. Club TV One is a dance club that opened in November and features hip-hop as well as R&B artists, and D.J.s. YIKES! Doesn’t look good for Parks or the club time scene in the Boogie.

What’s this we hear about a shoot that occurred at Lush Nightclub last weekend?

WORDZ to THE WHYZ

Why do fast food workers ask you what you want before you order? And they suggest a food order that you never want to get in the first place? Why hasn’t there been a “Men’s Free Til” at nightclubs? And why did the owner of TV ONE Club didn’t think his club wasn’t goin to get raided last weekend?

HELP BITZ SPOTLIGHT. KMJM personality Tammi Holland sent OUTTOWN an uplifting email from dress collector Tracie Ousley. It reads:There have been a lot of parents that have lost their jobs and have daughters that may not be able to participate in a day that you can never get back, their senior prom. I was sitting at home one evening and was thinking," what can I do to make a difference." As I was going through my closet, I came across some formal dresses that I had from either weddings or formal events, it struck me. "I can start a collection and give back to the community." So I called a girlfriend of mine and she thought that this was a wonderful idea. So here we are.
