STL-TIDBITZI guess the big newz in the STL has been the weather.
Earlier this week, parts of the Missouri area had a
bad freezing rain causing power outages to more than
100,000 customers today as icy roads were blamed for
at least one death. Gov. Matt Blunt declared a state
of emergency last Sunday and activated state emergency
operations and the Missouri National Guard to aid
communities affected by a storm. No communities had
called for help as of midday today. Tree limbs and
power lines were downed by ice up to an inch thick in
areas from around Joplin through central Missouri to
west of St. Louis. The storm caused over 10 deaths and
caused Chicago’s O’Hare Airport to close.
The weather also had an effect on the highwayconstruction planned in the ST. Louis area as well.
The westbound side of the Boone Bridge between west
St. Louis County and St. Charles County was scheduled
to be repaired this weekend, but the work was canceled
due to weather conditions. The bridge was briefly
closed, but reopened early Saturday morning. This is
the second consecutive weekend a shutdown was
publicized, then postponed because of bad weather. The delay now means that the westbound part of the bridge will be closed next weekend and the following weekend
(Dec. 22-23) — the last two weekends before Christmas and prime time for shopping.

They hope to finish before the major Countdown to the Shutdown of 1-64/40 on Jan. 2.

In otha newz,a St. Louis firefighter claimed Tuesday that he was the victim of a hate crime, and now an investigation is underway at a time when race relations within the fire department are already strained. He claimed this past Saturday that when he went to his locker, inside St. Louis fire station number 13, he found a stuffed monkey hanging in his locker. The station is at Shawmut and Ridge Avenue. Pictures of the monkey show it to have a strap around its neck, suspending it from a bar. Because of the potentially inflammatory nature of the pictures, NewsChannel 5 and ksdk.com are not showing the pictures. The pictures were sent to NewsChannel 5 by F.I.R.E., an organization representing black firefighters in St. Louis. The firefighter says this is not the first racially motivated incident he's had to endure. He claimed that firefighters, within his fire house, broke into his home back in August, hoping to prove that he was living in Illinois instead of in the city. And he claims that top fire department brass, including a deputy fire chief, had knowledge of the break in, but did nothing. The city's Public Safety Director, Charles Bryson, says the city is currently investigating both claims. What is going on? Breaking and entering in his house and locker? When its all said and done, the racial divide is going to get even wider and whose to blame? Good question...............................................Civil rights activist and Tauheed Youth Group coordinator Anthony Shahid is putting in his robe again—the KKK robe that is. Last Sunday, Shahid was a guest on The Freeman Bosley Junior Show talking about his latest protest of the America’s Center Convention Complex and the conventions that book at the venue. This go round, Shahid wants to hurt the pocketbook of the city as a protest to the recall of STL Mayor Francis Slay after his decision to demote former Fire Chief Sherman George leading to his resignation. Shahid said that he was going to wear his signature KKK robe and black gloves. Shahid is no stranger to protests in KKK gear. Just this June, Shahid led a protest involving more than 100 people dressed in KKK robes outside America’s Center protesting allegedly unfair hiring practices by the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission. And who could forget in 2002, when Shahid led a protest of the ST. Louis Public Schools and used Freeman Bosley Sr’s son as a corpse in a casket held by some pallbearers leading the march! Talk about a reality show that is in dire need of being produced!

And speaking of KKK, the organization has been sporting its signs (literally) on the East Side. what is going on in Shiloh, Ill? On Tuesday, a resident reported to the police that some KKK literature was in their mailbox and last Saturday in Shiloh’s neighboring town, Belleville, a cross-burning in a African American man's yard was found at 3604 Sheridan Ave., where Belleville police said a 5-foot-tall cross made of two-by-fours stood burning. The cross had racial epithets written on it in black permanent marker, and the bottom 2 feet had been burned. The racial epithets included "KKK" and "white power." Belleville police have contacted the local FBI office for assistance with follow up investigations. Police reportedly have no suspect information and encouraged anyone with information tocontact Belleville police at 234-1212.
And who said that racism was dead? Its hiding under white sheets!
Metro Transit Chief Larry Salci got the axe last week. He voluntarily resigned and was given the reasons for his termination serving for five years. One reason being, because of the loss of the Metro’s the court case involving its allegations that the hired construction team, the joint venture consisting of Parsons Brinckerhoff, STV
Inc., Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. and Kwame Building Group (called Cross Country Collaborative) mismanaged which caused the delay the St. Louis County Metrolink expansion (The other was because of Salci calling Fox 2 "You Paid For it" Tv personality Elliot Davis, "a clown.") As a result of Metro losing the court case (Salci filed suit in August 2004 after firing CCC) the County Board feared that Salci’s presence will affect voters not passing the County’s Metro tax hike amendment bill in February. Yet, Salci received a $250,000 severance from taxpayer’s money. Hmmm, must be nice to get fired and still get money from the County people that the Board fears will not pass a bill with HIS name attached to it. Only in STLamerica!
What happened to actor/comedian and syndicated radio talk show host Steve Harvey earlier this week on his show? He was MIA and his supporting cast took reign on the air. Well, according to mediatakeout.com, Harvey may be going to jail. Reportedly, his ex-wife Mary filed a lawsuit claiming that the comedian stole money from her during their divorce proceeding (as well as mental and physical abuse). Earlier this week, Harvey, whose radio show can be heard locally in St. Louis on KMJM 104.9 FM and boradacsted live last July at the JJK Center on east St. Louis, was in a Collin County, Texas courtroom and the judge was deciding a motion of contempt against Harvey concerning finances and property in question from their divorce. MediaTakeOut.com learned that he told Harvey that if he finds that he was in contempt - he may throw Harvey in jail. The judge is expected to rule on the matter in coming days. Wow, this may get ugly on many levels and according to mediatakeout.com, if he is booked and has to take a mugshot, he would have to take of his TOUPEE. Ooooh, that would be career suicide for real!

rapper/singer Akon who copped four Grammy nominations for the 50th Annual Grammy Awards that were announced last week. He is up for Best Pop Collaboration (with Gwen Stefani for “Sweetest Escape), Best Rap/Sung Performance (with Snoop for “I Just Wanna Love You”), Contemporary R&B Album (for “Konvicted”) and Best R&B Duo or Group Performance (with T-Pain for“Bartendar”). The Grammy Awards will be given out and televised at the Staples Center in Hollywood, Feb. 10. 2008. Will he win? I doubt it. He’s up against some Grammy faves like Tony Bennett and Christina Aguelera, Kanye West and T-Pain, Musiq Soulchild and Chaka Khan. But then again it is the Grammys that has a rep for surprises (I am still getting over the shock of Janet losing Album of the Year for her brilliant “Control” to Paul Simon’s “Graceland” in 1987. LOL)
St. Louis Cards baseman Scott Rolen wants outs from the team. But Cards manager Tony La Russa is saying FOUL. Reportedly, Rolen feels the organization does not have his best interest especially when he
questioned the validity of his medical procedure for his shoulder problems last season after Rolen was benched while struggling with a shoulder injury. Rolen has been feuding with La Russa ever since, but La Russa reportedly has never understood why Rolen holds a grudge against him. La Russa said last week that Rolen asked for a trade, and the Cardinals are exploring their options. But he insisted that the Cards front desk and team won't
"accommodate" Rolen. I’d say La Russa should give him what Rolen wants. I mean, didn’t the city of Jupiter accommodated La Russa 2 weeks ago? Hello. In unrelated STL sports news, Rams coach Scott Linehan can breath a sigh of relief—for now. It looked as though the 2007 season coach’s job could have been on the line after the Rams dismal start and losing streak of 0-8 before winning a game. Well, Rams President John Shaw gave Linehan a vote of confidence on Monday that he will be back next season despite the team's disappointing 3-10 record this season /. The main reason was th e numerous injuries from its star polayers (Steven Jackson, Orlando Pace, Leonard Little, Pisa Tiasomosa and more recently QB Marc Bulger and Dante Hall. Now if we can have the same vote of confidence in the police and fire departments!

The $500 million project will have its grand opening that night as Pinnacle, the developers of the establishment, will flip the switch on the 650-foot ribbon of light that stretches up, over and down the complex that sits just north of the city’s famed Gateway Arch, and adjacent to St. Louis’ Central Business District, the America’s Center convention center and the Edward Jones Dome, resting at the nexus of four Interstate highways and the MetroLink light rail system. After the project is complete, which will be in 2009, along with the casino will set a 24-story luxury hotel tower , two hotels totaling nearly 500 rooms, a 10,000 square foot spa, a business center, restaurants, plus retail shops...............................As of this writing, the man that was trapped up to his thighs working on a 5 foot deep grease interceptor trench behind Chuck E. Cheese in Fairview Heights last Wednesday was still in stable condition at a St. Louis hospital. The first was a Fairview Heights-grease trap construction worker, company owner Mark Davinroy, of Davinroy Mechanical Contractor Inc. in Belleville, was trapped in the compartment when a slab of asphalt about 4 inches thick collapsed after the soil underneath it, which consisted of clay and sand, gave way.
Is it true that Lucky’s on Washington AVE is closing? OUTTOWN received word from a source that the neighbors in the vicinity of the club have recently complained about the noise happening at the newly renovated club (that was formerly Club Formula, and Club Isis ). As a result, club owner Sonia Branscomb (PICTURED ON LEFT) is getting nervous and as of this writing may not be too far from closing shop. The club reopened as Lucky’s earlier this year after it was closed from a bouncer getting stabbed and killed when it was Club Formula last winter (Branscomb was owner of the club as well). Hmmm, it is interesting that it seems that things started to get uptight with neighbors since Mocha Latte got the spot for her hot event Sunday Night Shindig on Sundays (which has now been cancelled and will resume in January at a another venue) that brought in the STL hoodie stars in droves (500 plus every Sunday). I don’t know, but it seems like more of a coincidence that their having to close shop after the success of a black night at the club, but then again, I am not surprised.

Last Friday, I peeped out Stress Free Fridays at 609 and kicked it a bit. It was a bit slow when I got there around 8ish, (but I heard it picked up after I left), but I did get a chance to meet a brother by the name of Dr Michael Shaw, a transplant from
Nawlins after Hurricane Katrina, who is an educator and said that he was an initial player and investor in helping playwright and stage icon Tyler Perry get his start on stage and has toured various urban plays across the country. I left there around 9ish to pick up my gal pal Mocha Latte so we can hit mover and shaker Keith Griffin’ s “27th” B-day party at the Imperial Lounge on North Grand (Thats the age he is sticking to. LOL) . It was cool . Griffin was treating all with drinks and the food spread was aiight (the usual food items). The cake made you go, AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. It had a pic of young Keith with a bushy Afro. Classic. Griffin was pretty good and oiled and was all over the place networking and
dancing (His Souljah Boy was CLASSIC with extra jumps! LOL). After we left there (which was near midnite) and hit 1st Friday at Kyo. Now, the test was to se eif the networking mainstay was able to pack in 500 plus people up in KYO which is a
modicum of a space upstairs and downstairs. When we got there, the crowd was already enjammed up in therre. Every space of eh venue was with party
people. DJ Reminisce had it crankin on the 1s and 2s and Mocha got the mike HOT getting the party hyped (and also caused yet again 1st Friday co-creator Fred
Finley to grab the mike to try and hype the crowd ) It was also a lot of peeps from Chi-town therre (especially AKAs). There also a lot of frisky behavior there as well, but if you were there, you knew what happened. Or, maybe not. Lets just say, folks can be very creative and make any public area an area to get their freak on! But the TMP (too much playin)moment occurred when one of the bouncers had to pick up a brotha over his shoulder due to too much intoxication. I believe an ambulance was called so he could get his stomach pumped from the octane! In the house were rapper Hakeem the Dream, Shaki, Skylar, T-Luv, Anthony Robinson ( I wont miss your party on Saturday! )SYGU, Daniel Luckett and Andrew Clark of

Last Saturday , I checked out the Mayweather fight at Keith Griffin’s crib in South St. Louis. He was having a fight party there. It was cool. It had the usual
delectables (the cheese seafood spread was delish) and drink, but it was interesting to see how the invited guests would act and interact with Griffin kin folk (from his toddler son to his uncles and aunts). As time went by (and a few drinks in err body) it was as though he were ringside getting our clown on. The TMP (Too Much Playin) Moments occurred when host Mr. Griffin jumped on the furniture after Mayweather won and when the fight was over, got his bike and started riding it IN THE HOUSE! After the fight, I checked out Urban and “that secret spot” in South St. Louis.
