Well the big newz story of the week was St. Louis feeling the aftermath of Hurricane Ike last Sunday. St. Louis

Communities across the Midwest were reeling Monday after heavy weekend storms across the region left at least 17 people dead, more than two million homes and businesses without power, and scores of roadways flooded seeing about 3 to 6 inches of rain overall

The storm, which combined remnants of
Hurricane Ike with a slow-moving front in a wave of low pressure, produced wind gusts of up to 81 miles per hour, spurred five tornadoes in Michigan and dumped 4 to 10 inches of water on parts of Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan.

Accumulated rainfall forced at least 200 Illinois residents into temporary shelters, and on Monday Gov.
Rod R. Blagojevich declared seven counties in the northeastern portion of the state disaster areas.
In Missouri, which like other Midwestern states had already been hit hard by flooding this summer, officials blamed the storm for four deaths. Floodwaters shut down more than 40 state and county roads and left an estimated 100,000 people without power on Sunday.
By Monday evening, 25,000 customers remained without power in St. Louis and southeastern Missouri, said a spokesman for the local utility, AmerenUE

With flood crests expected to be below earlier projections, several Missouri communities were breathing easier. Still, problems persisted on Wednesday. The National Weather Service lowered predicted crests at St. Louis and other communities by 2 to 6 feet. Significant flooding was happening nevertheless along parts of the Missouri, Mississippi and other rivers.
The Mississippi is said to begin cresting 9ft above flood stage starting today.
The Meramec River, for instance, has risen above flood stage three times since March. Forecasters now believe it will crest at 36 feet in Arnold, Mo., on Thursday - 6 feet below earlier projections but still 12 feet above flood stage. Dozens of state highways remained closed in Missouri on Wednesday. Power outages that peaked at more than 80,000 after the storms were down to about 1,000 homes by Wednesday, most in the Charleston area of southeast Missouri.

Hurricane Ike battered Houston and the Gulf, shutting down oil refineries and causing average gasoline prices in St. Louis to spike to $3.80 Monday morning, according to AAA Missouri.
That’s compared to an average of $3.30 a gallon Aug. 28, before Hurricanes Gustav and Ike hit, said Mike Right, a spokesman for AAA Missouri.
The Explorer pipeline, which supplies the Midwest, did not suffer damage but had lost power, he said.

Even some Quick Trip gas stations in the St. Louis area ran out of several grades of fuel. St. Louis’ all-time average gasoline price high-water mark was July 14 with $3.983.

In East St. Louis, where gas is more expensive, the average price for a gallon of regular Monday was $4.084, compared to an all-time high of $4.203, according to AAA.

Other effects of Ike were sewage problems in East St. Louis, boat rescues in Hazelwood, Ladue, University City (causing 3 flood-related deaths) Twelve children and four adults had to be rescued from a Girl Scout camp in Hamel, according to a release from Edwardsville city administrator Ben Dickmann. Edwardsville firefighters assisted Hamel with the rescue. No one was hurt. Others effects included sandbagging efforts in Arnold, Mo,. 18 Quick Trips lacking gas (they had only Premium on Tuesday)

Meanwhile, during the Hurricane Ike storm, many Lambert workers were sent to Texas to help evacuate residents in Houston and Galveston.

One of the ST. Louis deaths from the storms made newz. The woman who waded into waist-high water to move a car Sunday near her home in University City has been confirmed drowned, bringing to three the local death toll from the storms. The St. Louis city medical examiner's office said today that the body of Louise Bryant, 64, was pulled on Sunday from the River Des Peres where it meets up with the Mississippi River.Bryant lived in the 1000 block of Wilson Avenue in University City. She and her male companion, Willie Johnson, 81, had gone outside to move their cars during a torrential rainstorm Sunday morning. Johnson's body was found in the backyard a few hours later. Fire crews spent Sunday looking for Bryant until nightfall.

OUTTOWN gives its prayers to the family.

Speaking of Lambert, St. Louis — A federal judge ruled Monday that Bridgeton residents were right in challenging the way asbestos was removed from homes demolished to make way for a runway expansion at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.U.S. District Judge Carol Jackson said that officials of the airport and the city of St. Louis, which owns it, violated federal regulations even though they were told by St. Louis County and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that their methods were approved. The order does not address damages.Bruce Morrison, an attorney with Great Rivers Environmental Law Center, said neighbors of the area continue to worry about health effects and plan to seek civil penalties and the cleanup of any contaminated soil. Contractors had used the "wet method" to demolish commercial and residential buildings that contained asbestos — essentially spraying them with water to keep potentially carcinogenic asbestos fibers from becoming airborne. The method was approved by the St. Louis County Health Department and was reported to be five times faster and four times cheaper than removing asbestos by hand. It also was against federal regulations.

Someone bout to get F.I.R.E.D.

Is Rams Coach Scott Linehan’s job on the first yard line?. This week St. Louis Rams Owner Chip Rosenbloom, who took the reins when his mother (Georgia Frontiere) died this past January, has been has been forced to speak out on the Rams 0-2 season.

"It is the job of the head coach, Scott Linehan, to figure out how to motivate and give some urgency to this team," Rosenbloom told the Post-Dispatch on Monday. "I believe in these players and I believe in this coach. "Obviously, the game of football is about winning," Rosenbloom said. "The level of play is not acceptable to me or anybody in the organization. "Things will get better, and if they don't, changes will be made."

On the dissention, Linehan was quoted as saying, “I've been concerned about my job security since I started coaching," Linehan said. "I'm scared to death to lose. Losing is a bad thing as a coach. If you lose, you're worried about everything. For the most part of my career in coaching, that has been a positive thing. At this point, we're not winning enough games. When you don't win games, people are going to want the head coach's head. That's the way it works. I have accepted that as part of the job, but not as part of where we are going."

Two games into the regular season and Linehan already was being asked whether he was worried about getting fired.
That's because the Rams are 0-2 and ranked 32nd in both offense and defense among the NFL's 32 teams. They're generating only 183.5 yards of offense per game, while surrendering 481.5 yards on defense per game.
Asked whether he was confident he was the right man to get the Rams turned around, Linehan said, "I am confident, yes I am."

The Rams are 10-point underdogs heading into their game against the Seattle Seahawks (0-2) at 3:05 p.m. Sunday at Qwest Field.
Oh boy, boom boom DOOM!

In related news, while last Sunday's home opener was be the first since the late Georgia Frontiere bought the St. Louis Rams that she herself won't be here to celebrate, she was there in spirit. The Rams celebrated their late owner at their home opener at Edward Jones Dome when Convention Plaza and Sixth Street were renamed "Georgia's Way." Frontiere's children and Rams co-owners, Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez, unveiled the permanent street sign outside the Plaza Central entrance to the Edward Jones Dome. After the game, the Rams held a private "Celebration of Life" event, which D'Marco Farr emceed.

Cardinals Hall-Of-Famer Bob Gibson was feted last Friday night on the 40th anniversary of his legendary 1968 season. That was when he posted a 1.12 ERA en route to leading the Cardinals to the World Series. The private reception at Mike Shannon's steakhouse featured Gibson's menu favorites — Jack Daniel's tenderloin and "The '68 Seafood Tower" served alongside a limited-edition batch of Trinchero wine. Shannon, Bob's teammate in 1968, hosted the party that attracted such other fellow Redbird well-wishers as Ozzie Smith, Whitey Herzog, Jack Clark and Tom Pagnozzi. Now if some of that Gibson fete could rub off on the 2008 Cardinals in this wild card race, we will be OK.

The Hampton Avenue overpass over Interstate 64 will close completely on Monday, Sept. 22. It is set to reopen on May 22, 2009.

Belleville Police continue their investigation of an attempted robbery of the Carlyle Avenue Goodwill store Tuesday night. Police have interviewed the store employee and determined the two masked subjects did not display any weapons and made no threats to the employee, according to Belleville Police Capt. Don Sax. The report initially indicated the two robbers were armed with a gun. The men approached the store employee, and, according to the police interviews, requested the employee come over to them. Instead, the employee ran to the front of the store and informed other employees and customers of the masked men. Customers and employees exited the store without further contact with the suspects. The two suspects were able to leave through the rear of the store. The Belleville Police Tactical Response Team responded to the scene and searched the building, but the suspects were believed to have left the building before police arrived. It was unclear whether anything was taken. Detectives continue to review video surveillance from the store. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 234-1212. Our question is, isn’t things in the Goodwill pretty cheap in the first place? Why would they wanna rob them?

Highland Illinois teachers avoid a strike by ratifying a three year agreement last night with school administrators. Union president ShiAnne Shively says the teachers felt so strongly against a strike that they accepted only a modest increase in pay and agreed to the School District's insurance proposal with only a few modifications. The vote was 115-to-31. It's a three year agreement that gives teachers a two-percent raise, plus steps, the first two years and just over a two-percent raise, plus steps, in the third year.

In St. Louis, it was held at Nelly’s spot, “ Skybox through 100.3 The Beat’s Sister Girl Tuesday day on Hypeman D Stone’s the radio show. As far as touring, Nelly got an early start when he opened for Janet;s Rock wit u Tour last Saturday when he opened for the singer in Oakland.
Nelly will also perform at several rare club events when he tours this fall in support of the much-delayed "Brass Knuckles." The rapper has announced shows in 13 cities so far, starting with a September 12 gig in Reno, NV, and wrapping on October 8 in St. Paul, MN.

The dates are as follows:

So do yawl think his CD will have a big first week opening? According to Nelly, it was his record company, universal that caused the delay of his CD cause of the lack of payment for his product. We will be watching the e-pages Billboard between no wand next Thursday to see how well it debuts on the 200 Albums Chart.

Two STL stars are doing their thing on TV commercials. On a national tip, actor/comedian JT Jackson (LEFT PIC) can be seen in the new Wal-mart Commercial where he plays a son being passed the BBQ torch to light the grill with his father. He can also be seen in the indy flick, “Bookie.” The other is model/actor Carlos McClaurin (RIGHT)who can be seen in the commercial for the eyeglass store Eyewearhaus. You can peep it during the morning and late night hours. He can also be seen in two other forms of media: an Anheuser Busch print ad that can be found in the ST. Louis American (where his full face is shown in a close up) and on a billboard for the seminar Power of Change located on the East Side going towards Fairview heights on I-64.

Three mover and shaker sistas did their thing on the radio last Sunday promoting their respective power duties doin the ST. communities. First up was Explore St. Louis’ Rebecca Rodgers (RIGHT PIC) who was on Sunday Morning Live talking about her duties as public relations rep for Explore ST. Louis and the CVC with the upcoming conventions and things to do in the STL. Next up on the same show was DIVA Planning’s Gina James and Michelle Brown (FAR RIGHT) who talked about their program Believing in Excellence in Education (BEE) a life-skills program for ages 7 though high school designed to empower young people to BEE the best they can be (To get more info on this program go to HELP BITZ BELOW)

On Sept 27, during the Gateway Classic weekend, the guys will have a grand opening of its new spot, Exo Restaurant & Lounge, located on 3146 Locust, just a street over from Olive where they had there last club Seven (where Dante’s now site) a few years ago. And lastly, OUTTOWN was deeply moved when Tony Scott of the Tony Scott Show on Majic 104.9 gave an very heartfelt talk during his show Tuesday about the ordeal his family went though during Hurricane Ike in Texas. Almost choking back tears on air, Scott said that all he could do is pray especially with his parents who are in their 80s and his daughters and grandson who live in Galveston, one of the hard hit cities. He also said that former Majic colleagues Eric Mychaels and Mark Clark called and gave him their support whether it was economically or brotherly. After he found out his folks were OK, he said he was going to send for his parents to stay with him until things return to normal in their hometown. He said they will join him later this week.

CABARET ST. LOUIS

Cabaret St. Louis is coming in October. The inaugural Cabaret St. Louis fall lineup will include Fran Landesman, Steve Ross, Sylvia McNair, Lee Lessack and Tony Sandler. Performances will be held at The Sheldon, Kranzberg Arts Center, The Gaslight Theatre plus additional venues. All shows begin at 8 p.m. Tickets on sale at all MetroTix locations.

FRAN LANDESMAN returns to her roots October 22-25 at The Gaslight Theatre. The legendary proprietess of Gaslight Square’s Crystal Palace presented such artists as Barbra Streisand, The Smothers Brothers and Elaine May. But outside of St. Louis, Ms. Landesman is most well known for her own songs and shows. Spring Can Hang You Up The Most and The Ballad Of The Sad Young Man became standards and were recorded by Elle Fitzgerald, Barbra Streisand and Sarah Vaughn. Fifty years later, accompanied by her son Myles, and around the corner from the old Crystal Palace, this top songwriter and cultural icon will treat St. Louis to an evening of storytelling and song. Tickets for Fran Landesman are $35.
The smartest of the smart set and St. Louis favorite, STEVE ROSS, returns with his latest work, “To Wit: Ross on Wry – Funny Songs Throughout The Ages,” October 1-4 at the new Kranzberg Arts Center in Grand Center. Ross is no stranger to St. Louis, as he has performed many times at The Grand Center Cabaret, Cabaret in The Savoy Room and St. Louis Muny. After Ross’s 2004 St. Louis appearance, Chuck Lavazzi of KDHX Radio wrote, “The fact is, Mr. Ross has a breezy elegance on stage that’s reminiscent of Fred Astaire, Noel Coward, Cole Porter and, above all, the late and much lamented Bobby Short.” Tickets for Steve Ross are $40.
Cabaret at The Sheldon will host Grammy Winner SYLVIA MCNAIR October 16-17 for two performances only. A beloved performer at Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Ms. McNair has segued from opera to the Great American Songbook, the music with which she feels most at home. Now, instead of singing V'adoro pupille on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera, she's singing Embraceable You to rave reviews. Of McNair's Algonquin Oak Room debut, Rex Reed wrote, "Her phrasing is exemplary. Her modulations are inspired. I could get used to this kind of ecstasy." Tickets for Sylvia McNair are $45.
LEE LESSACK’S lyric baritone vocals and sophisticated yet endearing persona have made him a shining star of the international cabaret scene. His tribute to Johnny Mercer, “Too Marvelous For Words,” runs October 29-November 1 at the Kranzberg Arts Center. As we celebrate the centennial of Mercer, Lessack is the perfect match for this romantic of songwriters. Billboard Magazine calls his singing, "Cabaret romanticism of a high order." Tickets for Lee Lessack are $30.
TONY SANDLER finishes the CSTL Fall season November 13-14 at The Sheldon with “Chevalier-Maurice & Me.” This show is neither caricature nor impersonation, but a heartfelt homage to this widely-admired entertainer. It has been the subject of a PBS special and DVD, and contains the charm and savoir faire that Maurice himself brought to film and stage. Tickets for Tony Sandler are $40.Tickets for all five Cabaret St. Louis performances go on sale Tuesday, September 2 at 10 a.m. at all MetroTix locations. To charge by phone call 314-534-1111 or online at http://www.metrotix.com/. Memberships available by calling 314-726-1616. I think what you posted was actually very reasonable.
But, what about this? suppose you typed a catchier title?
I mean, I don't wish to tell you how to run your blog, but suppose you added a title that makes people want more? I mean "OUT 468--STL TIDBITZ AND MORE!" is kinda vanilla. You ought to peek at Yahoo's home page and watch how they write news headlines to grab people to click.

You might try adding a video or a related picture or two to get readers interested about
what you've written. In my opinion, it might bring your posts a little livelier.

I write a leave a response each time I appreciate a article on a website
or I have something to contribute to the discussion.
Usually it's caused by the sincerness communicated in the article I browsed. And after this article "OUT 468--STL TIDBITZ AND MORE!". I was actually excited enough to drop a comment ;) I actually do have a couple of questions for you if you usually do not mind. Is it only me or does it appear like a few of these remarks appear like coming from brain dead people? :-P And, if you are writing on other online sites, I'd like to keep up

Hey I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you knew of any widgets
I could add to my blog that automatically tweet my
newest twitter updates. I've been looking for a plug-in like this for quite some time and was hoping maybe you would have some experience with something like this. Please let me know if you run into anything. I truly enjoy reading your blog and I look forward to your new updates.

An interesting discussion is worth comment. I think that you
ought to write more on this subject matter, it may not be a taboo matter but generally people do not talk about
such issues. To the next! Best wishes!!
