OUT 605--STL TIDBITZ AND MORE!

HELLO OUTTOWNERS!

ITS WEDNESDAY

TIME TO GET TOWNED!

We know that this following story isn’t related to STL area arts or entertainment, but we think its an influence on it. President Barack Obama's town hall meeting was held today, Wednesday on his 100th day in office at Fox Senior High School in Arnold, Mo.. According to usatoday.com, several hundred supporters greeted him with ovations and cheered as he took questions. outlined his policies and joked with audience members. Therre were the aniti-Obamaites who were outside of the venue reportedly several dozen abortion protesters held up gruesome photos of aborted fetuses and condemned Obama's support for abortion rights. The event is open to the public, but a ticket was needed. The Doors were open at 8 a.m and Obama reportedly talked about issies discuss his first 100 days in office and take questions about the administration's agenda. The 100th day in office is often used to measure the performance of a president in his first term. Missouri was reportedly chosen for the event because families and workers have felt the impact of the economic crisis as much as anyone. Wow, only Obama can get the folk REinterested in political issues. (SEE WORDZ to the WHYZ on what he had to say about the 100 day rule).

The big A& E story this week had to have been the several sports events that made newz in the STL area:

The NFL Draft was last week and The Rams added a few rookies to its roster. Their first pick was Baylor OT
Jason Smith (PICTURED) replacing the void when left tackle Orlando Pace was released in the off season. With their second pick, St. Louis grabbed Ohio State MLB James Laurinaitis. With their third pick, selecting Iowa CB Bradley Fletcher.
In the fourth round, DT
Dorrell Scott out of Clemson was picked. The Rams' fifth selection was North Carolina WR Brooks Foster. QB Keith Null of West Texas A&M was St. Louis' sixth round pick as the third-stringer
The seventh round pick was Texas’ RB
Chris Ogbonnaya . Well from pundits, the first and second picks should make some magixchappen for the Rams. Well, as they say, only time will tell.

The next big sporting event was the Cubs v Cards battle at Busch Satdium last weekend. Busch Stadium was packed to the dome last weekend as the Cards hosted the Cubs in a three game series. On the finale game Sunday, the Cubs reportdley posted a 10-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals before a capacity crowd of 44,742 fans at Busch Stadium and salvaged the last game of the weekend series. The 13-6 Cardinals, the NL Central leaders, saw their nine-game home winning streak vanish. The 9-8 Cubs are 3-3 against the Cards this season. Just like Obama in office, the year is still early, the Cards ain't out of the running.

The last big sports story was the STL boxers boxing at Scott Trade Center last Saturday. STL native boxer Cory Spinks won a 12-round split decision over STl native boxer Deandre Latimore (LEFT PICTURED by KING YELLA) to take the IBF junior middleweight belt on Friday night at the Scottrade Center. There were two scores of 115-112, one for Spinks and another for Latimore. Another card of 114-113 gave the bout to Spinks. Spinks was knocked down in round one, but then regained himself. Latimore (19-2) reportedly got punch heavy in the 10th round. Although, Spinks (37-5), reportedly got nasty cut over his left eye he knocked down Lattimore in the 12th round with about 2:20 left, but Latimore got right back up. It was reportedly Latimore's first title bout . In the co main event in a ten rounder between light
welterweights Devon Alexander (18-0,11KO) (PICTURED) and Jesus "Chewy" Rodriguez (19-4,5KO). The fight was reportedly got good and dirty, when Alexander put the hurtin' on Rodriguez from the sixth round and knocked Rodriguez down in the eighth and reportedly finished the job at 58 seconds of the ninth round keepinghis WBC ranking .

It’s a wrap. George Clooney is no longer in the STL. His film, “Up in The Air” finished shooting in the city last week after filming here for six weeks and the film’s crew is now heading to Omaha from reports. If you want to try and get some memorabilia various props from the movie, you can. According to reports, movie materials from the set will be sold at an upcoming next Monday. From reports, prices on the items up for sale at the movie's production warehouse will range from $5 to $500 (sorry they only accepting cash) Oh, and none of his clothing will be auctioned (And you know that would have been THE memorabilia that people wanted.) Can you imagine the auctioneer trying to action off Clooney’s dirty drawers? LOL. Our question is, how much will real estate brokers try and get for the house. Clooney rented in Ladue while he was living here.

Club Society had a record number of attendees at the Gucci Mane concert Wednesday that was bille das a birthday party celebration for its owner Jonathan Burns. According to sources, close to 4,000 attempted to attend the event. Thousands were turned away, but for those who were able to come through the doors, the five line deep, one mile long awaitees paid up to $150 dollars to jump the long lines to get inside. While inside, security and police were tenfold in the club and outside of it. Mane was accompanied by his posse member OJ the Juiceman as well as Yo Gotti. Also in attendance were Nelly and Chingy(w e can just imagine what the crowd was saying when the Chingster walked up in there). Meanwhile, Burns celebrated his b-day as Mane performed on stage with Juicemen and Gotti.

Speaking of Nelly, according to ksdk.com, .com, last Thursday, the rapper/mogul presented two four-year, full-tuition scholarships at Lindenwood University to a pair of students heading to Lindenwood University this fall. Terranique Campbell attends Rockwood Summit and plans to major in marketing. Jeremy Word is attending North Technical High and plans to major in journalism. The scholarships are sponsored by Lindenwood's Black Student Union, Plaza Motors and Nelly's record label. To see the presentation go to Nelly teamed up with Lindenwood University last fall to offer two full ride scholarships to high school seniors. To qualify for the scholarships the students also had to qualify for Pell grants. With the Pell grants and Nelly's scholarship their entire four year college career will be entirely covered if they keep a 2.5 grade point average.

Chitown native Jennifer Hudson ( PICTURE by
www.nydailynews.com) performed last Thursday at the Fox (as Robin Thicke as the co-headliner who opened the show) to a sold out crowd (SEE OUT 600 FOR PICS) . According to reported sources, the Oscar and Grammy winner performed near hour set singing songs from her debut CD, " including her #1 hit, “Spotlight,” the current single, “If it Isnt Love” and her newest sngle, “Pocketbook” as well as the gospel cut, “You Pulled Me Through” along with movie music from "Dreamgirls" (“ One Night Only,” I Love You I Do” and the finale, “And I AM Telling You”) She also did cover songs by Aretha (“Giving Him Something he Can Feel”) and Chaka (“Sweet Thing.” ) She also had her female cousins as her background singers who also got a chance to perform. At the start of her show, she quickly thanked fans for helping pull her through her family tragedy in Chicago last October . But the buzz that was goin’ on was whether she was preggo. With some of the outfifts she wore, her midsection could have been showing a possible bump. Oh and neither Hudson or Thicke attended any afterparties in town. On Saturday, she returned to her hometown to perform at the Arie Crown Theatre. There, she was reportedly just a few minutes away from where her mother, brother and nephew were murdered six months ago. The Chicago stop comes at the end of the first leg of Hudson's first roughly six-week, 19-city tour. It is her first tour.
To catch some concert footage from a fan go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXYHlcApI4w

In related news, J Hud may be the star of fellow Chicagoan Oprah Winfrey’s life story. Producer John Dixon is reportedly working on a new unauthorized movie project on Winfrey. It will be dramatization of her rise to fame from her beginnings in rural Mississippi. Dixon says his original movie idea “covers the media queen’s trials and tribulations, from her troubled childhood, to becoming an anchorwoman, her relationship with family and friends, her romance with Stedman, her purchase of Harpo Studios, to her many humanitarian contributions. Dixon states that his story will be part fictional based around factual events.” Dixon also says his original idea derived from his many encounters of both women and men, who named Oprah as their personal role model and/or hero. Dixon is also the first to suggest that Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson play the lead role of Oprah.Dixon believes that his “O-Project” (as he calls it) will be a huge hit among millions of people across the globe.
Well, with an Unauthorized version of the O’s life may be a bit wishful thinking if Miss O does not authorize such a movie.

Rapper Vanilla Ice will perform at Home Nightclub at Ameristar Casino in St. Charles. The rapper will be in the house May 16. Happy Belated b-day to Charlie Chan and a b-day shout out to YOURS TRULY Ma’at Atkins’, mom, Faye.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Lastly, yesterday, YOURS TRULY checked out the website Suite STL and saw that OUTTOWN was accused of being “blogger thief.” According to site, this all stemmed from the similarities and picture compilation on a news report about 104.1’s Superjam 2 concert (the site co-owner works with them).
Now, mind, you, as long as we have been compiling stories and pics, this is the first time in four years that we have been accused of stealing. In an editor’s note on the site, the site manager was upset that I copied specific wording about the event and used the pics of Soulja Boy, Young Jeezy and Keri Hilson that they used on the site. And, cuz of this, they “outed” OUTTOWN sort of speak and put a link to my site on their site for their readers to check out my site (Now, I will let you marinate on that last line for a minute) to let folk know that OUTTOWN is on blast.
Now, Suite STL asked for my apology and I did as such, but apologizing so I don’t be banned from their support is a bit puzzling especially after they linked my site on their site to take readers to my site. They went on to say I can go on their site, but not to “take” anything else from the site. (PARAPHRASE)

Well, OUTTOWN responded to Suite STL on its site with the following comment on April 29.

First let me say that I do give credit to where I get my info from as well as my pictures. My readers are fully aware that I dont write all the info on STL TIDBITZ. It's a compilation.

Second, the info that is out in the websphere, blogs, etc are all shared. I never said I was perfect, nor deny that I copy and paste info. Indeed I have. But I try to use the words "reportedly" and "reports" I try and use in specific wording from stories I do compile. Sometimes I forget in rushing to meet my own deadline. In my 15 years of journalism experience, I understand the importance of crediting as I would want it done with me.
Third, if I caused that much harm, I sincerely apologize to you and the the staff (I dont know if is Jamie B or Kyrss who typed the Editors note.)
Again, info is out there its all in how it is interpreted and reported. I have no shame in how I compile my blog and to be quite honest, linking my blog has sent many to my blog to read it which i am sure was not your intent.

So, let me say again, it is not my inent to be a "theif" as you say but to compile info in the four years of doing OUTTOWN.

This issue will definitely be addressed on OUTTOWN for it has made newz. “

Well, as the saying goes, if you’re not pissing folk off in life, then something must be wrong. But hey, I take a chance with being a writer. And yes, sometimes I falter, and sometime I succeed, but I have no problem addressing any issue with OUTTOWN.
