Its WEDNESDAY
Its time to get OUT….TOWN
Before we get to the new of the newz, do yawl know that the STL has just reached the centennial mark of killings? Actually one killing over. In what could be the city's 100th murder this year, a man was shot while sitting in a car Tuesday night and died early this morning, police said. The shooting happened at the intersection of North Broadway and Calvary Avenue just next to the Calvary and Bellefontaine cemeteries, police said. The man was taken to a hospital where he died early this morning, police said. WOW!
Now to the newz:
In Tuesdays Missouri primary election. The results there were some givens, surprises and blowouts. The following are those who will battle it out in the November general elections.
For writers; sake the abbreviations are as follows (R) Republican, (D) Democrat
In the Governor race, Kenny Hulsof ( R) will battle Jay Nixon (D) for non-returning (R ) candidate Matt Blunt’s seat. Hulsof got 49 % of the vote and his closest competition was Sarah Steelman with 44 %. Nixon blew out his competition Daniel Carroll 84 % to 15%.
In the Secretary of state race. Two candidates in both parties won unopposed Mitch Hubbard ( R ) and Robin Carnahan (D). It was unopposed in the Circuit Attorney race as Jennifer Joyce (D) got the vote .
In the U.S. 1st District (District) St. Louis, St. Louis County Race, Lacy clay (D) was also unopposed.
The incumbents also smashed the competition with the exception of the State Senate race in the 5th district. Incumbent ROBIN WRIGHT-JONES won over Rodney R. Hubbard in State senator 5th District (D) in one of the closest races of the evening with Wright with 50.5% to 49.55% . In the State representative 57th District (D) 57th District race, incumbent TALIBDIN "TD" EL-AMIN beat Joseph "Joe" Palm 63.22% to 36.8%. In the State representative 60th District (D) 60th District race it was incumbent JAMILAH NASHEED 75% over Kimberly Gardner 25%
Two female candidates fairly new in politics did well. In the State representative 63rd District (D) newcomer Tishaura jones (daughter of former comptroller Virvus Jones) won with 53% over her (D) candidate April harris who receeievd 46 %. And in one of the biggest landslides of the night was in the State representative 64th District (D) as RACHEL STORCH beat newcomer candidate Mike Roberts Jr. 82.4% to 0 17.6%.
In State representative 71st District (D) , St. Louis County one of the youngest candidates won. DON CALLOWAY, 28 won over his competition with 52% of the votes beating out candidates Vernon Harlan 36.1% and Roger Wilson 12.2%

Meanwhile, during the elections, the STL area was hit with heavy thunderstorms after two consecutive days of 100 plus heat. The storms brought on high winds, hail and a lot of power outages on both sides of the River. AmerenUE reported at 8 a.m. that 1,249 customers were without power on the Missouri side of the river, mostly in the Arnold and DeSoto areas and in parts of St. Charles County. In Illinois, at 8 a.m., power was restored to abut 5,000 customers but 10,771 customers were without power in the Jerseyville, Bunker Hill and Pocahontas areas. (In my area of Belleville the storm looked like a mini tornado!) In last night's storms, police reported many trees uprooted, especially northeast and south of St. Louis city. And more to come tonite.
As Assistant Chief Stephen Pollihan, a 36-year department veteran, was named interim chief, after former Police chief Joe Mokwa retired 2 weeks ago and the Police Board began an expedited process to name a new chief, local poiticains are demanding a change in the rule of that board from state control to city control. Members of the Board of Aldermen also had little or nothing to tell their constituents. They were not included in the discussion about whether Police Chief Joe Mokwa should stay or go, a move he made under pressure. Aldermen were also not part of the decision to give Mokwa a generous severance package — one year's salary plus paying for his legal counsel — even though city taxpayers will foot the bill. Aldermen considered holding investigative hearings, but had no power to compel Mokwa or other officers to show."The necessary checks and balances — they are not there," said Terry Kennedy, D-18th Ward. "More so than the individual or the person, there is a systemic problem that needs to be solved."
Look like the watch dogs will soon get watched. Hmmm.
And speaking of the Police Board, one of its members Mayor Francis Slay announced this week is seeking a third term in office (We guess the Recall Slay supporters should be gearing up in protest again from now til next April) In related slay news, Slay met with InBev CEO Carlos Brito last week to discuss the Belgian brewer's impending takeover of Anheuser-Busch. Mayor Slay posted the following entry in his blog regarding that meeting: "I have just met with InBev CEO Carlos Brito. It was a cordial conversation, in which each of us said pretty much what you would have wanted and expected us to say. "Brito said that he understood the importance of St. Louis to AB's brand and corporate identity. I told him St. Louis was a great place to build a larger business and offered him a tour, which he said he would like to take on a future visit. Yalw know what really went down. “Yo, Carlos, don’t take away the jobs of my buddies, I beg of you. What’s your price? LOL”
Fitness diva Richard Simmons stopped by various STL TV news shows to talk about a new bill he is trying to push through congress called 'The Fit Kids' bill. He also was at a meet at greet last Wednesday at the Kirkwood Walgreens. Last week, Simmons, who is 60, who has had people Sweatin' to the Oldies for years, offered new ideas for pumping up physical education at a congressional hearing last Thursday in Washington. "Some schools have 15 minutes two days a week for PE classes, and a lot of schools don't have recess," Simmons says. "When you take the physical activity and the recess away, these kids are just sitting in the classroom all day." Simmons, who has 50 fitness videos with titles that include Sweatin' to the Oldies, Dance Your Pants Off and Disco Sweat, says schools must offer more variety than just sports and games. "Everyone isn't made to play sports, but everyone wants to move." He speaks from experience. As a heavy child growing up in New Orleans' French Quarter, he says, he often sat out during gym class because he wasn't picked for teams. "I'd sit down and open the other kids' lunchboxes and eat their lunches while they were playing." To help support his bill go to http://www.richardsimmons.com/

Fashionistas, shopaholics, and Back-to-School shoppers unite, it's time to take advantage of the Missouri Tax Free holiday last weekend. The Missouri Sales Tax holiday draws shoppers from around the metro and neighboring states who wish to take advantage of tax exempt purchases. Missouri instituted this wonderful holiday which begins at 12:01 a.m. on the first Friday in August and ends at midnight on the following Sunday. The holiday allows tax exemptions on certain back-to-school purchases--which include clothing, school supplies, computers and computer software. We are sure somebody tried to bust up in one of the participating stores wondering why food or gas didn’t apply and probably argued that they needed both things to get their child to school. TMP!

A train derailment near the Fenton Chrysler Plant has cancelled the first shift for workers and the second shift may be called off, officials said. Last Thursday, police said, two or three cars, loaded with sheet metal, disconnected from the train and struck the plant. It happened at the truck plant's loading dock.No one was injured. Workers on the third shift Thursday were sent home. It is unknown when work will resume at the plant.

Pastor Terrence Jenkins of Alorton was charged last week with predatory criminal sexual abuse against an 8-year old girl, records show. He is currently being held in the St. Clair County Jail under a $250,000 bond. The crime allegedly happened in December in East St. Louis, where Jenkins served as an auxilliary police officer, according to East St. Louis Police Chief Michael Baxton. Investigators say Jenkins was a youth pastor at O'Fallon's Faith United Baptist Church, which has more than 100 members. They include the girl and her mother. The mother went to East St. Louis police and filed a complaint against Jenkins, who worked at the church for four years. Jenkins doesn't have a listed home telephone number. It isn't immediately clear if he has an attorney.
Well known figure Eddie Hassan was charged of tax evasion last week. Hasan, plead guilty in federal court for filing a false tax report. He admitted not paying taxes on money he earned from a consulting contract with St. Louis Public Schools, as well as other income. According to reports Hasan was funneling monies from Mokan, which helps construction contractors with minority contracts and depositing the funds in a dummy account well over six figures to escape from paying taxes on it. The charges, publicly at least, were unexpected: There were no reports that Hasan was under investigation. Hasan runs MoKan, is the publisher of the St. Louis Argus newspaper and father of former State Rep. Yaphett El-Amin, whose husband, T.D. El-Amin, currently holds her old seat.

MetroLink celebrated 15 years this week amidst some unheralded events when riders were attacked minutes apart at 2 stations last week. Police are investigating two violent attacks on MetroLink riders that occurred within minutes of each other late last Saturday night at the Delmar and Forest Park stations. St. Louis police arrested two teens after one of the attacks, officials said. At least three of the victims were taken to area hospitals. Police and transit officials gave this account “At 11:30 p.m. Saturday, about 10 assailants approached three teens who were waiting for a MetroLink train at the Delmar Loop station at 660 Rosedale Avenue. “

The Fairview Heights Police Department is no longer responding to calls of drivers filling up atteh pump and driving off. "For a long time, we felt that gasoline thefts were one of the most preventable crimes that we deal with," said Chief Ed Delmore. "Obviously if stations choose to require pre-pay, as most do now, the opportunity for the crime is eliminated." The department does not plan ask for an ordinance requiring gas stations to implement a pre-pay system because the decision should be made by businesses, Delmore said. Before the new policy went into effect July 23, officers were dispatched to the scene to take a report, an investigation would be conducted to see if the incident was a theft or unintentional, and officers would attempt to locate the suspect. Now that gas thefts are more frequent as fuel prices increase, Delmore said police resources are better spent elsewhere. Damn, you know its sirrus if the cops cant control the mob of folk stealing gas! Dayam!

And speaking of gas, folk were ridin’ dirty…on bikes to protest oil prices. Last Saturday, dozens of cyclists strapped on their helmets and stripped off their clothes for the World Naked Bicycle Ride. Hundreds of curious voyeurs and mostly nude bike riders flocked to Tower Grove Park for the 10-mile "World Naked Bike Ride" to protest America's dependence on oil. The police showed up, too —to make sure riders wore the bare minimum. Although the ride was a first for St. Louis, about 70 cities worldwide have hosted the World Naked Bike Ride since 2004. The riders rolled out of the park about 9 p.m. and were scheduled to end at the Atomic Cowboy in the Grove neighborhood along Manchester Avenue near Vandeventer Avenue Most riders covered up strategically by wearing thongs, pasties, loin cloths, underwear or bathing suits. Body painting also was popular. We were sure they weren’t gonna get bucked naked (some did try though but was fined). But our question was, why were their going to Atomic Cowboy for? To celebrate? LOL

Still no show for rams running back Steven Jackson. Steven Jackson's holdout is headed for the two-week mark, and it appears little or no progress is being made. The St. Louis Rams running back was absent for Tuesday's morning practice, the 16th workout he's missed in training camp and the 12th day of camp for which he has not been present. This missed workout, though, could hold more weight than others. According to NFL rules, a player must be in camp 30 days before the start of the regular season or risk losing an accrued season of experience. What’s interesting is, local TV is showing the commercial Jackson taped asking kids to stay in school and he ain’t no where to be found to do his J.O.B. LOL.

Major League Baseball officials, joined by members of the St. Louis Cardinals, revealed the logo for the 2009 Major League Baseball All Star Game on Tuesday. Officials said St. Louis was a great baseball town and has the "best fans in baseball." Tony LaRussa spoke at the unveiling, and players Albert Pujols and Ryan Ludwick pulled the sheet off the logo. The sign will be permanently placed behind the bleachers in left-center field. The last time the All-Star Game was in St. Louis was 1966. St. Louis has hosted the All-Star Game four times before. An interesting tidbit was when Pujols spoke and jokingly said to LaRussa he wanted to see LaRussa as the manager of the team so he could put him in the starting-line up this time then he looked back at LaRussa who gave stone-faced grin. OUCH!

And speaking of Cardinals, its fans fans and passers-by can now see equipment and activity on the long-vacant site of the proposed Ballpark Village. The co-developers, Baltimore-based Cordish Co. and the St. Louis Cardinals, said site work on the downtown retail and entertainment district begun this week. The site work — such as excavating the piers from the previous stadium and grading — is needed to get the property ready for construction. Excavators started showing up Monday afternoon as workers prepared to drain the pool of water on the property, said Bill DeWitt III, the Cardinals' president. The team recently received a notice from the city's building department requiring it to clean up the site by Sept. 10 or face fines.

A man was shot down the street from Lumiere Place casino last week. The victim was shot on Second Street near Morgan while in a car, police said. Media reports said that the man drove to the casino north of Laclede's Landing on the riverfront. The victim was taken to the hospital, police said. He is expected to survive.Police had no further details yet on this breaking story.

Busch's Grove may no longer be a restaurant, but you may soon be able to buy food there again. Southwestern Enterprises Inc. announced today that it acquired the high-end restaurant at 9160 Clayton Road in Ladue and will reopen the location as a gourmet grocery store. The store, to be known as The Market at Busch's Grove, will feature local produce and products from local food producers, Southwestern said. The store will also feature take-home gourmet meals.Southwestern said Paul Poe, who recently left Straub's after 13 years as chief executive of that upscale grocer, will head the new market.
Berry’s in the house—again. STL native rock pioneer Chuck Berry’s old house could soon be historic. A local preservation group is working to put a house once owned by Chuck Berry — the St. Louis native considered by many the father of rock 'n' roll — on the National Register of Historic Places. The shotgun-style cottage at 3137 Whittier Street is no Graceland. It features a simple white awning against sturdy red brick and a narrow porch. In related news in regards Berry news headlines last week on his skipping sold out concerts in Spain and a simple “Not Well” for cancelling. The reports said that during his European tour, Berry skipped a pair of weekend concerts in Spain just before show time. His agent reportedly called concert promoters to tell them Berry left the country. Berry was said to be paid for the concerts, and legal action is under consideration. Though no explanation was given, speculation was the 81-year-old Berry was ill. Delmar mogul Joe Edwards, Berry’s longtime friend and frequent spokesperson, reportedly said Berry stopped in at Blueberry Hill last Monday and was absolutely fine. “He was in great spirits, and we talked and laughed.’ Edwards also said Berry did cancel in Spain for unspecified reasons, but normally he “never cancels and he’s always on time.” Berry’s next Blueberry Hill gig is Aug. 13, and it’s sold out. Berry is also slated to perform on “The Tonight Show” Aug. 29, according to Edwards.
Granite city native country superstar Gertchen Wilson got sued for plagiarism last week. The Black Crowes,is defending their 1991 hit “Jealous Again” was the inspiration for Wilson’s song, “Work Hard, Play Harder.” The Crowes allege that Wilson’s song, which is featured in an advertising campaign for TNT’s Saving Grace, infringes their copyright on “Jealous Again,” from their debut Shake Your Money Maker. The lawsuit names Wilson, Turner Network Television, Wilson's label Sony BMG and publisher J Money Music as defendants. As of yet, there has been no response from the Wilson camp.
According to MediaTakeOut.com St. Louis native fashion mogul Kimora Lee Simmons got some beef with her ex Russell over a Phat farm ad that had Ruseell ex girlie Porsla Coleman.. Word is that Kimora found out that Russell was putting Porshla in Phat Farm ads and she went ballistic (As yawl know Kimora bought out Russ and is now the CEO of his company) According to one insider, Kimora was not at all happy about Russell's girl creeping up on her role as Phat Farm/Baby Phat spokesperson and put the pressure on Russell. What kind of pressure is not completely clear but we are sure you can read between the prenup lines. LOL
Reports say Rappers Nelly and T.I. are planning to record a full-length album together. Nelly reveals he is currently in talks with the self-proclaimed King of the South for the proposed project, although details have yet to be confirmed. He tells "Rap-Up," magazine, "We talked about doing a joint together, a whole album. It's not about just selling records for me anymore 'cause I've done that. It's about making something that people will remember." The two have previously teamed up for songs like T.I.'s"Get Loose," and last year's "Show It To Me." And Nelly has no reservations about working with convicted criminal T.I. - insisting everyone "makes mistakes." T.I. will begin a 12-month prison sentence in March(09) after being convicted of federal weapons possession charges earlier this year (08). Uh, why is Nelly talkin about an album with T.I. and he has yet to release his toooooooooo-long awaited Brass knuckles CD? In unrelated news, Nelly along with Usher, P. Diddy, and other celebrities escaped unscathed after gunshots were fired early Saturday morning at an Atlanta nightclub party sponsored by Jermaine Dupri, sending thousands of party-goers fleeing.A security guard was hit in the arm.Nelly, Usher and Diddy were believed to be performing at the time of the shooting at Club Dream. The shooting was reportedly over guests angry at having to pay to get into the VIP section after already paying to get into the club.In a statement to People magazine, Dupri said: “I’m sad this incident happened because it interrupted a beautiful and loving party. But I’m happy none of my people or friends got hurt. And the party continues.” In other words—SHIT, IM GLAD I DIDN’T GET SHOT!
The top three St. Louis Idol finalists were on Fox 2 Morning news Monday. The top winner was chosen on the show. The winner was Corey Temure of Park Hills, Mo. He won a spot in the Kansas city auditions on august 8 at Kemper arena (An interesting tidbit was that he said on the show that he was going to the auditions regardless if he won the spot or not. Hmmm) . The other STL Idol finalists were Vanessa Hafner, a student at Southern Illinois university at Edwardsville and 16-year-old Aarion Smith, a student from Hazelwood West. What’s interesting is, the winner was to get a spot in the Kansas City auditions. Yet, all three are going to the audition. Hmm, wouldn’t it be interesting if the other two who were not chosen as the STL Idol go further than Temure?
Guess who STL adopted girl actress Niecey Nash is getting snuggly with. Randy Ritchwood, from reality shows Mr Romance” (in which he won)and I Love New York 2, (He is also on the book cover for the steamy romance novel IF ONE AINT ENOUGH)Nash, who can be seen in the hit TV show “Clean House’ on the Style network, as well as the new film, Not Easily Broken, confirmed they’ve been dating seriously for a year. She also mentioned that she hasn’t introduced him to her kids yet. Earlier this year, Niecy brought Randy along to her birthday soiree. And that’s when people started suspecting. She’s also a newly divorced.
And speaking of STL stars doing it up , In a few weeks you can see St. Louis native comedian G Thang in the new movie Diaster Movie. G thang plays thr role of Calvin in the flick where over the course of one evening, an unsuspecting group of twenty-somethings find themselves bombarded by a series of natural disasters and catastrophic events. Its release date is August 29.
***
We hear that STL jazz diva Mae Wheeler is in ill health. We will keep her in our prayers.
In the august issue of Alive Magazine, they have a special edition called The Men’s Issue where men’s style and fashions are featured. On the cover is actor John Hamm who can be seen in the Emmy nominated A&E drama “Mad Men” (In the issue he reveals that before he hit it big in Hollywood, he worked as a set dresser on soft-core porn movies. ) In the issue, several STL movers and shakers are featured for their style . They include St. Louis Ram’s Chris Long, KSDK anchor Mike Bush, business man David Arnold, and St. Louis Post’s Kevin Johnson. .
After nearly a year off, Hoodstar Mocha Latte’s popular party Sunday Night Shindig will be returning next Sunday, August 10. This go round the weekly party event will take place at Lush. (SEE MOCHA”s CORNER BELOW FOR DETAILS) We are sure she will pack them in. Let’s just hope and pray that no incidents will occur like what happened when promotion group Therapy was up in there doing their Sunday thing then a few weeks back a fight ensued causing the promotions group to be shown the exit door.
And speaking of clubs, Club Fondue closed its doors last week after only after being open less than a year.
We heard that two STL hot boyz got the ladies screaming at last week’s Stress Free Fridays at the In Onyx Bar
Before we got there, FREE TIME’s Adrian Saddler showed up and had the ladies (and we are sure some men haters) looking his way. We hear that the ladies swarmed him asking for autographs and pics. We are sure the new attention had to do with his being selected as one of the men to be voted on in Essence’s Magazine’s A FEW GOOD MEN competition.
THEN..........................
.........................minutes later, Award winning STL fitness model Fred Williams showed up causing even more of a woman rush up to him recognizing him in the St. Louis American last week for winning at this year’s Natural Body/Fitness Championships held at the Roberts Orpheum. He also brought in a few copies of the book If ONE AINt ENOUGH where he is one of the cover models.
Is it us or does those local Weekend Outlet commercials with eth guy holding a light switch on chain saying ish each weekday like…its Monday. Tuesday, its Wednesday, its Thursday…we’re closed, then turn off the light URKS YOUR NERVES!

Yours Truly, Ma’at Atkins will try and make some of his school reunion activities. It’s a lot of events going on, but more than likely, he will drop by this Friday and see his high school classmates at the Meet and Greet at Reggie’s Backstage on Grand.
And lastly, an R.I.P. goes out to STL native sports announcer Skip Caray who dies August 3 . Harry Christopher "Skip" Caray, Jr. was an American TV and radio broadcaster for the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball. He was the son of the late baseball announcer Harry Caray, and the father of fellow Braves broadcaster Chip Caray; another son, Josh Caray, is an announcer for the Rome Braves. Caray grew up in baseball as the son of Hall of Fame broadcaster Harry Caray. He studied television and radio at the University of Missouri where he received a degree in journalism. He began his career in St. Louis calling Saint Louis University and St. Louis Hawks basketball. In 1968, Caray moved with the Hawks to Atlanta, where he also called Atlanta Flames hockey games. In 2000, NBC hired Caray to do play-by-play with Joe Morgan on the Division Series between the New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics. Caray was filling in for Bob Costas, who sat out the Division Series after anchoring NBC's prime time coverage of the Summer Olympic Games from Sydney, Australia. He had been suffering from failing health for nearly a year prior to his death, but returned to work for the 2008 season, calling a game on radio as recently as 3 days before his death. He was 68 and was only nine days shy of his 69th b-day.

There is no doubt in my mind what so ever that Profit lance will show you how to make money online, but there are many obstacles your going to face in order to do it or to get to where I am at. What I mean is, there's allot of information, tools and resources in this course that your going to have to get familiarized with before you can become successful. Yes you will earn money but to make a living out of it your going to really need to understand how everything works.
