Oh and this is the weekend of YOURS TRULY, Ma’at Atkins aka Maatology’s BLOG BIRTH DAY and SELF BIRTH DAY this weekend where this blog OUTTOWN turns three and YOURS TRULY turns, well, lets say it’s a “3” in the age. LOL.(GO TO OUT 435 FOR THE 3 YEAR TRIBUTE)

OK let’s get to the newz:

BREAKING NEWS: Authorities said Tuesday night they captured an ex-con suspected of killing eight people in two states. The St. Louis Area Major Case Squad said 28-year-old Nicholas T. Sheley (ABOVE PIC) was captured Tuesday night in Granite City. He was in the city jail after being arrested quietly while smoking outside a bar. Patrons and bartenders at Bindy's, 3705 Nameoki Road near the Granite City Kmart, recognized Sheley from newscasts when he came in, asked for a lighter, tried to use the phone, had a glass of water and was asked to smoke outside. He was in the bar about 10 minutes, witnesses said. Bar occupants called police, and a patron went outside to flag down a patrol car. Within minutes, police and FBI agents swarmed the bar parking lot. They arrested Sheley without a struggle as he smoked his cigarette. How wild is this? This reminds me of that joke comic Dominique does when she gioes over a mans house for a romantic evening and watches TV and sees the man she is seeing on America’s Most Wanted and her trying not to pay attention to the show. Only difference is, folk in the bar called the cops. Hilarious. We are sure some Hollywood writer will write the movie for this!

The continuing saga of Belgium based alcohol company InBev trying to pursue the ownership of Anheuser Busch still brews on. The latest is Anhuser Bush AB said NO to Inbev’s request for a buyout and files lawsuit against Imbev. Anheuser-Busch Cos. plans to cut pension and health care benefits for its salaried employees as part of an effort to slash $1 billion in costs by the end of 2010 and fend off an unsolicited $46 billion bid from Belgian brewer InBev. The cost-cutting plan -- dubbed Blue Ocean by the company -- is part of Anheuser-Busch's effort to stop InBev's takeover effort. InBev's offer amounts to $65 a share, which is a steep premium over Anheuser-Busch's stock price of roughly $50 a share before speculation about the InBev offer was reported by media outlets. In response to reports that
Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc.'s board of directors rejecting InBev's $46.3 billion unsolicited takeover offer, the Belgian brewer filed suit in Delaware Chancery Court, asking the court to confirm that shareholders can remove without cause all 13 members of St. Louis brewer's board.

InBev said the eight Anheuser-Busch directors elected after 2006 are subject to removal without cause under the brewer's charter and the laws of Delaware, where Anheuser-Busch is incorporated. InBev wants to confirm that the other five Anheuser-Busch directors, elected in 2006, can be removed without cause through the written consent procedure. The board had 14 members until Grupo Modelo chairman and CEO Carlos Fernandez resigned from Anheuser-Busch's board last week to avoid the appearance of any conflicts. It was reported that Anheuser Buisch was going to buy out the other 50 percent of Group’s ownership to create debt to make the ”hostile” buyout request from Inbev seem less attractive. And to make matters much worse, They call Inbev CEO Carlos Brito, « a silent butcher. » OUCH. We think the writing is on the wall in AB owning itself and if Imbev is successful in its injunction to remove the Board, that’s all she wrote. Goodbye Anheuser Busch, Hello Anheuser-Bev.

After DaimlerChrysler announced plans yesterday to cut jobs at the suburban St. Louis plant where it makes Dodge and Chrysler minivans, Missouri officials said they might revoke tax cuts granted to the company. About 1,300 workers will lose their jobs in Fenton, government leaders said. That’s about one-tenth of the 13,000 job cuts announced by Chrysler in a nationwide restructuring plan aimed at returning the automaker to profitability by next year.

Chrysler said it will eliminate a shift at the South assembly plant in 2008. The plant, one of two Chrysler plants that sit adjacent to each other in Fenton, employs about 2,850 workers. Just more than a year ago, Chrysler officials came to Fenton and announced plans to invest more than $1 billion there. State and local officials promised the automaker up to $78 million in tax incentives to lure the investment.

Last week the STl lost a well loved family and business man Lee Nixon aka Roseman from a gunshot wound. Now yet another family and business man has been murdered. 48 year Lemuel Houston , A family man and respected business owner of an ice cream shop on North Grand was shot inside his Cahokia home Monday night while his younger brother was in the house.. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department called the Major Case Squad in to help with the investigation. It was been speculated that it was a robbery attempt. For those with nay info should contact the St Clair County Sherriff’s Department. The family is offering a reward.

Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama was in Independence Mo Monday to make a speech on patriotism at the Truman Memorial Building. Reports say that those in attendance said they gained even more respect for Obama as he argued that patriotism should allow Americans to stand up and dissent against a government they don't agree with.

Archbishop Raymond Burke will leave St. Louis at the end of August to accept an appointment in Rome. He will work at the body responsible for interpreting church law known as the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura. Burke has been a member of the body since 2006. Burke replaced Justin Rigali, who is now the archbishop of Philadelphia, in 2004 and during his relatively short time in St. Louis quickly became a polarizing figure, often causing controversy with his strict adherence to traditional Catholic teachings.Perhaps the most notable example was in the first few months of his tenure when he said he would deny communion to John Kerry because of Kerry’s position on abortion rights. At the time, Kerry was campaigning as the Democrats’ presidential contender. The debate sparked by Burke’s comments drew international attention. As soon as the Vatican made the announcement June 27, Burke’s authority as archbishop was suspended. Bishop Robert J. Hermann has been selected to serve as archdiocesan administrator until the pope names a new archbishop of St. Louis. According to The Shadow in this week's Evening Whirl, there is speculation that former St. Louis Archbishop Terry Steib, now Bishop of Memphis , is on the short list of becoming the first Africn American St. Louis Archbishop. Hmm, we will see.

Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt is getting his hand cramped these days for signing bills this week and before he steps down not seeking re-election.
Blunt signed the Internet bullying bill. The bill extends the state's harassment law to include electronic communications including the Internet. It forbids anyone of making more than two attempts to stalk or harass someone over the web. The law also requires schools to adopt policies that require administrators and teachers to report any incidents of such stalking or harassment to law enforcement. The new law makes harassment a felony for adults 21 years of age or older. Anyone under 21 caught harassing via the Internet would be charged with a misdemeanor. The law was inspired by the suicide of Megan Meier, 13, in October of 2006 in her home after receiving cruel messages from what she thought was a 16-year-old boy on a MySpace account. Blunt signed the bill at the Middendorf-Kredell Library in O'Fallon.

Blunt also asked President Bush to approve a Disaster Declaration for Public Assistance for seven Missouri counties as a result of the August 19-21 severe weather and flash flooding in southwest Missouri. Eight to 11 inches of heavy rains caused flash flooding in many Southwest Missouri communities. Blunt is requesting a Disaster Declaration for Public Assistance for seven counties: Dade, Dallas, Greene, Laclede, Lawrence, Polk and Webster. Additional jurisdictions may be requested as affected counties identify storm‑related damages.

During a swing through Joplin, Blunt signed legislation aimed at curbing the theft of copper and other metals.Key provisions of the new law require better record-keeping by scrap-metal dealers, and stiffen penalties for the thieves and the dealers who do not follow the law, Blunt said during a news conference at the Joplin police station.

Blunt also signed into law the Missouri’s Textbook Transparency Act..The Missouri act, proposed by Rep. Jake Zimmerman, a Democrat from Olivette, requires textbook publishers to disclose book wholesale prices to professors ordering textbooks for their classes. It also requires publishers to tell professors about any content differences between a new book and its previous edition.

On the ILL side, Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich signed into law the final piece of the state’s most comprehensive death penalty reform package ever, helping to restore confidence in Illinois’ troubled criminal justice system. The bill signed, House Bill 576, establishes procedures for dealing with police officers accused of perjury. The new law provides for decertification of police officers by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board if the officers are determined by the Illinois Labor Relations Board to have knowingly and willfully made material false statements in relation to a murder case. House Bill 576 is the final piece in a comprehensive package approved by the General Assembly this fall. Many of the reforms were recommended by a death penalty review panel established by former Gov. George Ryan when he put in place a moratorium on executions in Illinois in January of 2000. The primary bill, Senate Bill 472, contained a number of provisions, including: prohibit the death penalty to the mentally retarded, creating proper prodcures for lineups, a truial judges power in death sentences, the state Supreme Court’s power in overturning death penalties among others. During the 2003 legislative session, Blagojevich and members of the legislature focused on reforming Illinois’ broken death penalty system.

Now this is the ARSE HOLE NEWZ BIT: A man is accused of stealing a boat from a St. Charles County marina and taking a joyride in floodwaters, with his young son along for the ride. A Lake Center Marina employee reported that he and his co-workers noticed that the boat was gone last Wednesday, they began searching the floodwaters. Soon they spotted the boat, but said the man grabbed his son, jumped into the water and swam into a flooded woods. More than an hour passed before an employee at neighboring Eagle's Landing Marina found the boy in the water, wearing a life jacket. He said the boy told him that his father drowned, but within an hour authorities found the man nearby. St. Charles County deputies say a man could face several charges. The boy, who is primary school age, was not injured.

A U.S. Park Ranger who was is in serious condition after being run over by a car near the Arch grounds early Sunday is out of the hospital . Around 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning, the ranger saw four people throwing barricades into the river near First Street and Washington Avenue, according to city of St. Louis police. Three of the suspects ran when the ranger approached. A fourth man attacked the ranger, according to police. The ranger used a Taser on the 23-year-old man and handcuffed one of his wrists before the man ran to his car.

The driver then ran over the ranger and the ranger fired off several shots before calling for assistance. City police found the ranger in a semi-conscious state before he was taken to a. His name has not been released. Police found and arrested two suspects near the scene. Minutes later, police received a call for a car accident at Mullanphy Street and North Broadway, about 10 blocks north of the Arch grounds. The man who ran over the ranger was trapped in his car with gunshot wounds to his chest, abdomen and groin, police said. He later died at a local hospital and his name has not been released. A police investigation is continuing. Our question was, wasn’t it flooding near the Archgrounds? How did the boys get through in that water to even get to the barricades? Hello?

Another newz story of hooligan behavior happened when he St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department reported one of two mini-motorcycles was stolen last weekend from a locked trailer parked in Ballpark Village has been recovered. The Shriners' chapter from Delaware owns the mini-motorcycles worth $800 each. The group drove two days to St. Louis to be a part of last Tuesday's Shriners International parade and convention. The Shriners International parade was July 1 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.. The route began at Olive and 14th Streets in downtown St. Louis. The Shriners International will held its 134th annual international convention, called the Imperial Council Session, in St. Louis from last Sunday through July 3.

And speaking of the Ballpark Village, The St. Louis Cardinals, under pressure from city leaders, are cleaning up the site of the long-delayed Ballpark Village project adjacent to Busch Stadium. The weeds have been cut and the trash picked up from around the chain-link fence. Water is being pumped from a large hole that has turned into a pond. But what will happen beyond that is unclear. Public Safety Director Charles Bryson said he will meet with Cardinals officials later this week.

If the land is considered a demolition site, then the Cardinals would be urged to fill it in and seed it. But if it's a construction site, then the city and the Cardinals would reach agreement on how to keep the six blocks of land looking acceptable until construction begins which could start early 2009. Initially, the first phase of Ballpark Village was to be open in time for the All-Star Game, which will be played at Busch Stadium in July next year. If the Cardinals have not completed at least $60 million in development by 2011, the team would be penalized $3 million a year, according to its agreement with the city.

More than 30,000 conventioneers are expected to descend upon Downtown St. Louis at the Americas Center and the region for the 48th Session of the General Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, the nation’s oldest black denomination. The convention will be July 4-11. It is reported that people will be coming in from across the nation and also from Asia and India. We are sure that the Live OFF the Levee folk are excited cuz this weekend, R&B singer Anthony Hamilton is performing and we are sure the gospel folk would want something to do after they convene on July 5 (akin to the national Urban League Convention this time last year during the Musiq concert at the Levee). But our question is, where is Anthony Shahid and his black KKK robes for this infamous demonstration at Americas Center?

After swearing in 10 police hires this month, Mayor Alvin Parks proudly told the audience "you are as safe as anybody now, in this city, in this room." He praised a city committee for choosing the officers from a pool of 29 candidates and for performing background checks. But documents obtained reportedly revealed that two of these new officers had criminal histories, and one of the two even took the oath of office with an outstanding arrest warrant for domestic battery.

The top recruit — the son of Police Chief Michael Baxton — had been released from the Army for misconduct. The records of several new hires are marred by arrests for misdemeanors, extensive traffic citations and multiple bankruptcies.

This was the largest group of new police hires in this high-crime city since 1994; they come at a cost of roughly $500,000 a year, funded in part by the East St. Louis School District. Now, city officials admit they rushed the process to try to get as many officers into the police academy as possible by July 1. The city relied on its own investigations instead of waiting for Illinois State Police background checks, which the city received this past week. The new recruits with questionable records include Officer Larry D. Greenlee, Officer Lawrence Wood, Officer Michael Baxton Jr.. Three new hires have filed for bankruptcy at least once; one had filed three times and has several small-claims judgments in his financial record. The city has not performed any financial checks. Wow, this looks bad for the department, but then again, which top official said that “he did not have sex with THAT woman, Miss Lewinsky?” We rest our case.

The St. Louis Cardinals are on a roll, they are second in the Central division of the national league (48-37) The Cards are in a four game series against the New York Mets, with the Cards winning in a' 7-1 victory at home Monday night, First baseman Albert Pujols is back in the lineup and for those who checked out last week’s Riverfront Times’ they had an indepth article on newcomer Cards rookie Brian Barton who is helping to get the Cards back on track this season. Did you know that he is a semester away from being a rocket scientist? Yep. The 26-year-old Los Angeles native attended the University of Miami on an academic scholarship paid for by Boeing and majored in aerospace engineering. The article (entitled: “Faster Than a Speeding Rocket Scientist”) expounds on his growth as baseball player in Major League Baseball's Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program, his struggles of being a minor league player and school, the Cardinals desire to recruit him and the baseball policy hindrances of signing him. It is very provocative story about this brother. Oh and did you also know that he lives about five minutes from Busch Stadium? Down, ladies. LOL. For more on this story just go to http://
http://www.riverfronttimes.com/ and do a search on his name.

Actress/singer Jasmine Guy was in the Lou last week, no not in a play, but talking to senior citizens about medicare. Guy and some St. Lousi church leaders Sunday talked about the Senior Savings Program, a medicare savings plan for local seniors on Sunday. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is sponsoring the "Senior Savings Challenge." Those who qualify for the low-income subsidy can save 75 percent or more on their Medicare prescription drug costs. Many seniors qualify for this benefit and do not even know it. Actress Jasmine Guy, known for her role in the 1980's sitcom "A Different World" helped inform seniors and caregivers at two local churches. Hmm, we wonder if she accidentally slipped and started speaking like Whitley Gilbert all of a sudden? LOL. For more information about the "Senior Savings Challenge" call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 or visit http://www.medicare.gov/

HEAR SAY BITZ. A woman called on the Freeman Bosley junior radio Show last Sunday and said that there was yet another shooting at the Soft Touch in Washington Park, the same place where Lee Nixon, aka The Roseman was shot and killed from a drive by shooting early Monday morning. The lady said that that someone rang shots there early last Sunday and that she was waiting to get in the club but ran to her car as the bullets flew. Also, as YOURS TRULY, Ma’at Atkins was a hanging out in the Delmar Loop early Sunday morning, it was reported from club hoppers that there was a stabbing at the Shell Gas Station on the corner of Delmar and Skinker (who, what, and when is a DUNNO) and a suicide when someone jumped off a balcony at one of the venues in the Delmar Loop (who, what, where DUNNO).

Website http://theybf.com/ spotted lovey dovey couple STL fashion mogul Kimora lee Simons and actor Djimon Honsou last week getting cozy while shopping in Beverly Hills. We are sure she was doing some serious shopping especially after the child support payments kicked in from ex Russell Simmons recently for their daughters Aoki and Ming Lee . Child support documents uncovered this week by
TMZ.com show that the daughters of divorcing parents Kimora Lee and Russell Simmons are to receive $20,000 each month in support from their father, per an agreement filed last Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court. The monthly checks will come until 2019 for 8-year-old Ming Lee, and 2022 for 5-year-old Aoki.Kimora Lee, 33, filed for divorce in March after nine years of marriage. She's asking for primary custody of the kids and that Russell, 50, be granted "reasonable child visitation - accompanied at all times by the children's nanny and security personnel."

The STL is still feeling the pain of the loss of lee Nixon, aka The Roseman who was tragically killed last week in a drive by shooting while selling roses at the Soft Touch in Washington park. There were several tributes to Nixon (go to OUT 431 for pictures) and black radio even got on board with their tributes. On the Freeman Bosley Junior Show on 100.3 The Beat, , the personalities dedicated the whole hour to the life and memory of Nixon. Callers were angry, upset and wanted the killer to turn himself in. His sister, NYC author Gloria Nixon was also on the show talking about her brother. What was emotive of the show was when radio personality Pat Washington said that at a recent meeting for the Gateway Classic event she recommended that Nixon be selected as the Grand Marshall of the Classic parade. Then days later, she heard news that he was killed. Bosley read off the obituary that was printed at his funeral last Friday at Friendly Temple Baptist Church. And, STL music producer Sunny Metcalf introduced a new record that he helped record and produced called “get Your Mind Rite” with featured STL artists Hakeem the Dream, Rucka Puff , Nikko Smith , and Squad Tre, among others. Metcalf said that he will pass out 1,000 copies of the CD at various events including the block parties will coordinate in respective areas of the inner city ST Louis area. On Sunday Morning Live, there was a panel of guests talking about the Roseman, including Posts’ Kevin Johnson on the life of Nixon and the callers , akin to the Bosley show, livid as ever of what happened.

E-LETTER TO THE EDITOR BITZ. OUTTOWN received an email from a blog reader named Pinky who emailed us about a bad experience someone had at HOME Nightclub recently that she wanted us to share with our readers. Here is the letter:

Hello Maat,

I am a blogger myself, my site is
http://www.mzpinky.com/ and a young lady wrote me about her experience at Home nightclub. Can you please post this on your site because we need as many people as possible to know about this incident. This is what she wrote:

I am contacting you because of an event that took place over this past weekend. On 6/28/08, I and three other friends were going out to the local nightclub "HOME," located in the Ameristar Casino. This was only my second time attending this club but my girlfriends attend quite regularly. We arrived at the club around 12:30am, as we approached the entrance, I noticed two African American women standing off to the side. My friends and I are also African Americans.

We pulled out our I.D.'s and we were asked how many were with our party. We responded "four," within seconds a tall Caucasian man from the background approached and said, "Sorry, we can not help you tonight, thank you," and he stepped back. Of course, we thought it was joke and continued to stand there until he repeated the same thing, "Sorry, we can not help you tonight, thank you".

By this time we noticed this was not a joke, so we asked what was the reason, he did not say anything other than what he had been say, "Sorry, we can not help you tonight, thank you". We are all confused and by this time we are standing on the side with the other two girls. We watched many Caucasian women and men enter the club and I noticed that African Americans were entering into the club only if they were accompanied by anyone Caucasian.

After I realized what I was seeing, I noticed a sign off to the far right of the entrance and it read something to the effect of: "The management of club Home has the right to refuse anyone at the door for any given reason". We tried asking the tall man his name, why weren't we allowed in the club and his only response was the same, "Sorry, we can not help you tonight, thank you". Oh, he did say one other thing, when he noticed we did not leave he told us, "This is not a joke so there is no need for you to wait around".

My girls spotted a guy (African American) that works in the club and told him what was going on. As he approached the entrance, the tall Caucasian guy quickly said, "Sorry, we can not help you tonight, thank you", until it was brought to his attention that he worked there. I don't want to take up to much of your time but there was more to the story but to sum it all up. Around 1:15 a.m. there was a nice size crowd of African Americans out front confused about why "WE" weren't able to get into the club.

My friends and I had VIP passes; we were on the list for my girlfriend's birthday party (which was with me). We later talked to the worker from the inside of the club and he apologized and told us that that guy was head of security from Las Vegas and he is only here once every three months and it was based on our race. I am not sure what can be done or really what the purpose of me writing you, all I know at that present moment, I was outraged. I can not believe that in 2008 there can still be open racism.

Wow, if that was the case, this was flat out racism in your face. However, in Journalism 101, there is always two sides to a story and because HOME is not repped to give their side, this can only go as speculation (we learned that from watching Judge Judy. LOL). But if this is the case, your friend should definitely litigate and get documents from others who were treated the same way. Can you say Dennys’?

IN THE MIA (MISSING IN ACTION) File--Where are the model/club dancer duo brothers Calvin and Maurice Dunlap?
