OUT 536--STL TIDBITZ AND MORE!

HELLO OUTTOWNERS!

Its Wednesday! ITS OUTTOWN DAY!

Herre’s what’s happening in the STL, A&E style:

THIS JUST END. As we were blogging today, MediaTakeOut.com just caught wind of a developing story. Word coming out of Atlanta is that last night, Tuesday, (STL) rapper Nelly and his girlfriend Ashanti told people that they're expecting a child together. According to a EXTREMELY RELIABLE industry insider, Nelly and Ashanti were in Atlanta yesterday filming a music video together with rapper Plies. And word is that late last night (after filming ended) the hip hop couple held a "secret meeting" where they announced the pregnancy.Unfortunately, the insider wasn't there to hear the words directly from Nelly's mouth - so for now we're chalking this one up as a rumor. But the insider spoke to someone who reportedly heard the news directly from Nelly. MediaTakeOut.com had a few other snitches who were around the set and they should be checking in this week. Developin' story.

Hmm, if this is true, maybe this is the reason why Nelly is jittery about marryin’ Ashanti cuz she got a baby already in the oven? I guess we’ll find out in months if that is so, but then again….

ALSO JUST END, Chicago native Jennifer Hudson will make her first public appearance since the killings of her mother, brother and nephew during sports' grandest event - the Super Bowl. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed today that Hudson will sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl in Tampa, Fla., on Feb. 1. E! News first reported Tuesday that Hudson would perform.
Hudson hasn't made a public appearance since her 57-year-old mother, Darnell Hudson Donerson; 29-year-old brother Jason Hudson; and 7-year-old nephew Julian King were slain in Chicago in October. Her estranged brother-in-law has been charged in the killings.

Good for her! Wow, we cannot wait for this. And you know we all gonna watch and see if she will hold it together.

++++++++++++++++

Hudson’s former home American Idol, Season 8 premiered yesterday with a two –hour auditions show from Phoenix. Tonite. Wednesday at 7 p.m. (CST) auditions will take place in Kansas City, MO. We will keep you posted if anyone from the STL made the audition trip to Hollywood.

In ONGOING STL A&E NEWZ:

Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier is scheduled to interview today for the St. Louis Rams head coaching job in Los Angeles.The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported last weekend that the Rams put Frazier on their list of finalists without requiring him to go through a preliminary interview. According to the newspaper the final five candidates for the Rams job are Frazier; Dallas offensive coordinator Jason Garrett; Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo; Baltimore defensive coordinator Rex Ryan; and Jim Haslett, who finished the season as the Rams' interim coach.

Haslett had his finalist interview last week, according to the Post-Dispatch. Garrett is scheduled to meet with Rams executives Wednesday in Los Angeles and Spagnuolo will do the same Thursday. Ryan interviewed Sunday in Baltimore because the Ravens are still playing.

Frazier, who reportedly was runner-up to New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels for the head coaching position in Denver, also remains in the running for the Detroit Lions job. The Lions conducted a second interview with Tennessee defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz on Sunday and reportedly will talk to San Diego defensive coordinator Ron Rivera for the first time today.

We are betting that Fraizier may land the gig if he didnt have to go thru any preliminary interveiws. What yawl think?

Stars from the past — in the form of Cardinals and players from other teams who have participated in baseball All-Star Games — and stars from the present, including Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols (LEFT) , the National League's Most Valuable Player for 2008, and St. Louisan Ryan Howard(RIGHT), runner-up for the MVP and a star for the world champion Philadelphia Phillies, will be featured in the program for the 51st St. Louis Baseball Writers' dinner on Jan. 19 at the Millennium Hotel(Pujols is slated to receive his award there) . The All-Star theme for the dinner is in honor of the Cardinals playing host to the All-Star Game next July for the first time in 43 years.

In other sports newz, East St. Louis native Olympic star Jackie Joyner Kersee is making her rounds for bailing out her husband’s private foundation. Joyner-Kersee’s namesake Foundation reportedly paid at least $457,000 in consulting fees to her husband, Robert Kersee’s private foundation, which failed to file federal income statements as required by law. The board of directors of the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation voted to pay Robert Kersee's Diversity Through Sports Youth Foundation $327,000 in 2003, $35,000 in 2004, $20,000 in 2005 and $75,000 in 2006, according to public tax documents.
During the same years, the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation was losing millions and the East St. Louis youth center it runs was struggling to pay its bills, according to financial records. Also from reports, Robert Kersee's foundation failed to file 990s for six years, from 2002-07. The Joyner-Kersee Foundation's 990s listed the $457,000 as payments for a "consulting agreement."

The Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation, according to its 990s, reportedly paid the money to Robert Kersee's foundation "to promote and guide athletes and their coaches through the process of engaging themselves in the area of leadership via sports philanthropy and volunteerism." Virtually the same language would show up again on reports listing other financial transactions between the two foundations.
Jackie Joyner-Kersee could not be reached for comment.

Oooh, this is about to get ugly.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Another East St. Louis sportsman in newz is Grizzlies forward Darius Miles who swas shocked when he saw the e-mail that his former NBA team the Portland TrailBlazers president Larry Miller sent out last week. According to reports, Miller warned the other 29 NBA teams not to sign Miles just to screw up the Blazers' salary-cap situation. He threatened litigation. If Miles plays in two more games this year (heading into Tuesday's contest against the Cavs), his $18 million contract will go back on the Blazers' salary cap. That would eat up Portland's cap space and its ability to sign free agents this summer. It would also cause the Blazers to pay the luxury tax.The Grizzlies, meanwhile reportedly ignored Miller's threat and signed Miles to a 10-day contract last Saturday. The 6-foot-9, 235-pounder said he was "shocked" by the e-mail.Regardless, Miles is going to get paid. It's a matter of whether it's coming from the Blazers or their insurance company."I'm not worried about anything," he said. "It doesn't affect me what (the Blazers) do."Miles is happy to be back with the Grizzlies, who originally signed him on Dec. 13. The former Cavs forward has appeared in just two games and played nine minutes this season.

Man, talk about a tight grip. We are glad that Miles is going to continue doing what he does best—play ball.

Last Thursday, The I AM Music Tour stopped in St. Louis at the Chaifetz Arena. Headlined by multiplatinum artists Lil Wayne, T Pain and Keyshia Cole as well as rockers Gym Class Heroes, rapper Gorilla Zoe and singer Keri Hilson. (PIC OF LIL WAYNE, GORILAL ZOE AND T-PAIN courtesy of Carlston Edwards)
According to St. Louis Post Dispatch Pop Critic Kevin Johnson, clos eto 6,000 attended and LiL Wayne “ has stepped up his concert game,” “ a force live,” and “ has added a rock star-like production element, with big pyro, arena-level guitars and more.” Wayne brought out T-Pain for their hit, "Got Money," and according to Johnson, “ debated who was featured on more songs in 2008, then had a "feature-off" to show their work .”T-Pain was reported as “the real surprise, delivering a set that was headline-ready and unveiling a circus-themed set complete with fire eaters, stilt walkers, contortionists, a crew of little people - most of them scantily clad - and an inflatable version of T-Pain.” It was also reported that T-Pain’s songs were “started and stopped quickly, but he had much ground to cover.” A highlight according to the review was when “ T-Pain chastised a certain artist who titled her new CD "Circus," then introduced her, actually bringing out a "mini-Britney" who stripped to his early hit "I’m N Luv (With a Stripper)." Pain also sang without his Auto Tune voice on one occasion.

Johnson said Keyshia Cole “offered up her glitziest set yet, a classed-up, Vegas-inspired routine complete with feathered fans” and Gym Class Heroes “rocked, rolled and rapped its way through a winning set. ”However the performances of Zoe and Hilson were not lauded. Johnson said “Zo’s set was forgotten before he left the stage” and Hilson “failed to stand out, despite wearing a sequined black bra.” OUCH!
As far as the afterparties, we went to the Keyshia Cole/Hilson/Zoe party that was held at Lush (SEE OUT 533 FOR PHOTOS). It was close to 1,000 folk up in there crowding all three floors . Zoe arrived first hyping up the crowd with his bangers. Hilson came next. She chilled up in VIP, being friendly to the crowd (and even did the Stanky Leg when the song came on!). Cole, was, well, being Keyshia(maybe she was tired) . She said her thanks to her crowd and all, but for the most part she chillD in the corner of VIP. According to Evening Whirl, Gym Class Heroes was at F15teen, Lil Wayne jetted out of the STL, and T-Pain’s after set at Club Society was reportedly almost empty and that he was a bit stank with taking flicks with fans (According to the Whirl, “you could have walked an elephant through the spot.”)

St. Louis area comedian/actor Cedric the Entertainer has been in the newz this week for his talents. Last week, he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in A Motuon Picture for his work in “Cadillac Records” at this years 40th NAACP Image Awards. He is in stiff comptition with his fellow castmates Columbus Short and Mos Def for "Cadillac Records," Dev Patel for "Slumdog Millionaire" and Nate Parker for "The Secret Life of Bees." The 40th NAACP Image Awards will be broadcast live from Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium, Thursday, Feb. 12 on FOX. Also, BET Networks announced this week that the comedian will make an appearance at THE BET HONORS on Saturday, January 17 at the Warner Theatre in Washington D.C. This year's show will premiere on BET on Monday, February 9.

St. Louis native comedian and activist Dick Gregory was a guest via telephone on last Sunday's Sunday Morning Live Radio Show on Majic 104.9. he along with his brother Ron Gregory who was also a guest in the studio of the show talked about the upcoming Presidential Inauguration of Barack Obama. Ron, who is producing a ST. Louis Inaugural Ball on Lights on Broadway (OBAMA EVENTZ BELOW). Dick, on the other hand, got more in the “psychoses” of Obama’s new reign as President of the United States. To paraphrase, he said that Obama really has two years instead of four to get the country back on its feet economically. In 2010, there is a mid term election, and if the country isn’t as well off as it was, then he predicts the country will vote Republcians back in Congress and Obama’s subsequent bills will not pass. And as far as the history of Presidents, Gregory laid some knowledge and said that George Washington was not the 1st President, but the “ninth”. He said that John Hanson was the actual 1st President and several other presidents elected theareafter for one term until Washington was elected in 1789. Gregory said if the country was founded in 1776, then there had to have been someone running the country. He said at the time, Washington was a General in the American Revolutionary War so “how could he elect himself as President?”

Hmm, point taken. But according to Wikipedia, Washington was the “eighth” President not the “ninth.”

St. Louis actor Jon Hamm lost the Best Actor Golden Globe last Sunday but his show “Mad Man” won Best TV Drama.......... Kinloch native Jennifer Lewis’ film “Not Easily Broken” came in No. 9 at the Box Office last weekend raking in $5.6 million. What is interesting is, the film was played in only 724 theaters across the nation for a strong $7,735 per screen average. The other movies in the top 10 averaged about 2,950 theaters each.

St. Louis rock legend Chuck Berry will perform at his monthly venue Blueberry Hill in his monikered Duck Room at 8 p.m. Feb. 11. Tickets are $25, on sale at 5 p.m. Friday at Ticketmaster outlets, http://www.ticketmaster.com,/

Two local media perosnlaities made newz this week.

First up was KMOV-TV anchor Larry Conners who is back on air after a week off for medical leave from shoulder surgery. As of this blogging, the veteran broadcast journalist will show footage of his surgery on air either tonite (Wednesday) or sometime this week on the KMOV broadcast at 10 p.m (Some reports say it could be a report on his adjustable hairline these days. Ouch. LOL) . Hmmm, we wonder if the shoulder surgery had anything to do with his rhythmless James Brown dancing he did at last year’s annual Nelly’s Black and White Ball at Chase Park Plaza. Hmmm. LOL.

Next up was KMOX personality Jon Grayson who has made the transition from local host to syndicated host. Grayson's CBS-syndicated "Overnight America," have been heard weekdays since Jan 5 from midnight to 5 a.m in St. Louis as well as Pittsburgh and Boston. Grayson;s show replaced late night nationally syndicated host Al Malmberg’s show on WCCO radio stationed in Minneapolis. Malmberg was fired last week in the latest in a series of cost-cutting measures taken by the CBS-owned station(which also owns KMOX) and by other media outlets in the Twin Cities and elsewhere around the country. The station also let go Brad Walton, who was behind the microphone on weekends overnight for about the same length of time as Malmberg.
+++++++++++++++++++++
According to St. Louis Post Dispatch Columnist Deb Peterson, over the NYE festivities here in the STL, in the atrium at HoteLumière during singer Nikko Smith’s weekly set at the venue, Isley Brothers guitarist Ernie Isley came up on stage and jammed with Smith on the Isley’s cover classic"Summer Breeze.” Oh, in case yawl didn’t know, Ernie currently lives in St. Louis.

One of St. Louis newest food stars is coming to the Lou for an upcoming event. St. Louis native Chef Christina Machamer (PICTURED) winner of last season’s Hell's Kitchen is among the stars that will make an appearance at The Repertory Company of St. Louis Seventh Annual St. Louis Food & Wine Experience that will be held Jan. 24 and Jan 25
at The luxurious Chase Park Plaza Hotel. There, folk can experience the color, taste and aroma of wines and prepared foods wafts from the culinary booths. Machamer , who is now, the Executive Sous Chef at Gordon Ramsay at the London West Hollywood Hotel, will be on the mainstage to whip up a winter risotto recipe while sharing reality show behind-the-scenes insights and helpful culinary tips she has learned alongside some of the world's most honored chefs. Other VIP guests include pizza maker Father Dominic Garramone and Cards manager Tony LaRussa (FOR INFO, GO TO EVENT BITZ BELOW)
++++++++++++++++++++

And speaking of food stars, congrats to restaurant Owners Karen Duffy and Tim Kirby who was recently named the Greater St. Louis Restaurant Association’s Restaurateurs of the Year for the venue Duff’s (circa 1972). The two restaurant owners will receive the award at the Greater St. Louis Inaugural Dinner January 18.

According to stltoday.com,
effective with this summer’s Verizon Wireless Amphitheater concert season, concert-goers will no longer be able to buy tickets for shows there through Ticketmaster, as they have for years. Live Nation, which owns Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, will begin selling its own tickets for its Live Nation venues nationwide, effective immediately. The only venue that effects locally is Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. Those tickets are available at www.livenation.com, at the venue, and at select Blockbuster stores in the area.

Anheuser-Busch
InBev has turned over the iconic Bevo Mill building and windmill in south St. Louis to the city. David Gilbert and Patrick Viehmann operate the restaurant at Bevo Mill, at 4749 Gravois Ave., and had leased the property from the brewer. A-B InBev has transferred the land to the city for a dollar, Gilbert said, and lease payments will now go to the city of St. Louis.

Last week, department-store operator Macy's Inc. said it will close 11 underperforming stores in nine states - affecting 960 employees - and lowered its forecast for the fourth quarter after one of the weakest holiday seasons in years. The Macy's at Crestwood Mall, which opened in 1969, will be closed. Dillard's closed its Crestwood mall store in 2007. Sears remains.

And lastly, a happy belated 70th B-day to the Evening Whirl. The Evening Whirl, now called the St. Louis Metro Evening Whirl, is a local weekly newspaper that has been printing since 1938. It was published and founded by Benjamin Thomas (currently owned by Anthony Sanders) and focuses on local crime (YOURS TRULY is a contributing entertainment writer weekly) . As of 2004, it had a circulation of about 47,000. The paper, located at 4244 McPherson, recently had a locally star studded celebration of this feat at Studio Hitz entitled, “The Whirl Is Yours.” The party was also doubled as a relaunch of its website,

WORDZ TO THE WHYZ (GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS). Why was the celebs talkin’ loud throughout the show and several presenters has to SHUSH the audience members? Why did actor Mickey Rourke almost fall going up the steps after he won Best Actor? And why did he thank his dogs win he won? Why did Tracy Morgan say for actress Cate Blanchett to deal with that he is the new face of post racial America? Why did double winner Kate Winslett sound like she was having an orgasm when she won both times? Why is Renee Zellwigers’ eyes look so squinty? Why wasn’t Phylicia Rashad nominated for her role in A Raisin in the Sun? And why did triple winner the mini-series John Adams win for that bore fest?
