OUT 555--STL COMEDIAN RODNEY WINFIELD--RIP

OUTTOWN just got word that legendary St Louis comic/actor Rodney Winfield died this past Monday. We heard it when we had gone to the Gray Area event at F15teen this Wednesday when one of the featured acts comedian Jovan Bibbs announced to the crowd that he had passed away (Also during that show, one of the other featured acts comedian Longhorn said to the crowd that he just got word form his brother via cell phone that his mother just passed ).

We later discovered that Winfield passed due to complications with his kidneys. No word yet on exactly what sort of ailment he had, but it has been confirmed that he passed away today. Winfield was probably best known for his performance in Talking Dirty After Dark and Dead Presidents.

We remember seeing him in person on two particular occasions. The first was in July 2006 when he performed his raunchy blue humor at a comedy show hosted by Darius Bradford at the now defunct Plush near Union Station. He was high, drunk and--funny. He talked about everything under the sun about sex and having sex. One particular joke he did was when he hit the top of his head with his mike and said, “Guess who I am?” And he said, “My dick “

The second time was at Sentinel Newspaper’s Yes I Can Awards in December 2006 at the Renaissance Hotel at one of the banquet halls. Well, he came up there and sat with some guests he did not know in the back and was cracking jokes about the honorees slurring his words and being obtrusive. Everybody heard him in the rear, but no one said anything to him.
And folks who knew Rodney knew he was being Rodney.

We also got word from Bibbs that it will be a benefit for Winfield’s family at the House of Comedy this weekend during the Leslie and Joe Clair show in his honor.

Winfield was 76 years old.

I just want to say thanks to everybody and all of the comedians that came out to pay their respect at my cousin Rodney funeral. I got to tell y'all this was the most hilarious funeral I probably will ever attend in my lifetime! If you weren't there, YOU MISSED IT!
I think Rodney would have been well pleased with the way folks from all over paid homage to him. Rodney lived his life just the way he wanted to, Chop Chop and all, if you know what I mean! LOL.. Cuz, I know you're up there rejoicing with your mama and daughter, aunt Velma and Stacy.
Oh! for y'all out there in cyberspace, here's an FYI. Rodney died at the age of 69, NOT 76!
Just thought I might clear that up!
R.I.P. cousin,
Love & miss you already Cuz! :(
Tony Winfield
