OUT 270--STL-TIDBITZ AND MORE!

STL-TIDBITZ

BREAKING NEWS: Well, looks like former St. Louis Fire Chief Sherman George(PICTURED) is retiring—somewhat. He announced his “retirement” from the department on Thursday at a press conference and said he plans to file complaints with the Equal Opportunity commission and the state's Human Rights Commission.
But what is interesting is, he said that he wasn’t going to actually retire from the department of 40 years but retire until his job as Fire Chief is reinstated.
George was removed from office on Oct. 1, after ignoring a deadline set by the mayor to make promotions in the department. Thus, he was demoted to Deputy chief by newly appointed Public Safety Director Charles Bryson. At the press conference, George has not said publicly whether he intends to challenge to get his position back, or leave the department completely.
George broke it down as far as how all of this got started,. Mainly the African American organization, FIRE, who protested and filed suit in 2004 against the test which was used for the promotions. George stated that, according to the fireman’s charter, the fire chief can use his discretion to promote. In other words, he had the power to do so, not the Mayor’s Office (and in George’s words, “if the mayor wanted the charter changed, he should have changed it.” ).

George also stated that Bryson’s office gave him a letter of termination when he had a closed meeting with him on Oct. 1 (and showed the letter to the press during the conference) but decided on demoting him which would hurt him financially as in his pension (i.e. a $20,000 pay cut). He also got into the politics of Mayor Francis Slay’s office appointing the new Fire Chief Steve Kotraba. George said that the new acting chief was Deputy chief under George and that there are some “investigations” of some sorts of Kotraba’s practices in the department that was OKd by George. George said that having Kotraba over him would make his job hostile thus Mayor Slay, knowingly, promoted him for that aspect to oust him.

George feels that the promotions that Kotraba done were illegal and his demotion was illegal resulting in his “retiring.”
George also talked throughout the conference that the mayor did not want t make this an issue of race, but in actually he did.
I knew that it was going down like that (either he was going to resign or quit). But what is interesting that hasn’t been brought up, while the deadline for George to promote was going on and he called up Don Wolff’s former talk show “And Justice for All” one Sunday on KMOX-TV as a guest on the show and he was calling from Atlanta. I wonder why George was there? Maybe looking at that city’s fire department and its prospects? Hmmmm.

This big newz coming out of the STL mos definitely was the charging of former pizza manager Michael Devlin (PICTURED ON LEFT) who pled guilty earlier this week of all 71 offenses of kidnapping and sexual assault against Ben Ownby, now 12, and Shawn Hornbeck, now 16, he kept in his apartment in Kirkwood and was sentenced in St. Louis County Circuit Court to 18 consecutive life terms, 52 additional concurrent life terms and 15 years for kidnapping. According to stltoday.com, Devlin entered his guilty pleas in a 45-minute hearing in the courthouse in Clayton. Devlin did not speak other than to answer the judge’s questions. The judge ordered that the 18 consecutive life terms run after the life sentences Devlin already had received in Franklin and Washington counties. Consecutive sentences are served one after the other, and concurrent are served together. As of this writing, Devlin \] entered pleas to six counts of guilty to dozens of child kidnapping and sodomy charges for the abduction and abuse of Ben Ownby and Shawn Hornbeck. Devlin pleaded guilty to coercing a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct to produce photographs and pornographic videos, some of which include Devlin and Shawn, now 16, engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Devlin's sentencing was set for Dec. 21.What is interesting, it is that Devlin’s attorney, who knew didn’t have a chance to get Devlin off of the charges, said that Devlin pled guilty so that both families of the boys, as well as Devlin’s; didn’t have to relive the pain of the kidnappings through testimony, but the attorneys for both Ownby and Hornbeck stated that Devlin did it for himself and only himself so that the accounts of the kidnapping would not be told in court. What is also telling was the info regarding Hornbeck’s testimony. Pretty much, he made a pact with the Devil (pun intended) to maintain living after Devlin wanted to drop off Hornbeck and kill him. From that Devlin used Hornbeck as his slave for his sexual pleasures. What’s more disturbing is that Devlin may have had an emotional attachment to Hornbeck whom he held hostage for four years whereas Ownby was more in danger such that after his kidnapping in a few days was definitely doing to be killed. In my opinion, I believe that, and I hate to say it, but it seems as though Devlin and Hornbeck, who is now 15, became lovers (Devlin gave Hornbeck his last name) and that is probably why Hornbeck didn’t leave or tell police. As sick as this sounds, it makes sense. The question now is from reports is whether to put Devlin in protective custody or put in general population in a maximum security prison. All I have to say is, now that he is what you call “short eyes” there’s no telling how his life will end......................... Looks like two other organizations are following suit like Cahokia High and Gm on the strike tip. Earlier this week, over 50 percent of the bus drivers at First Student Bus Co, formerly LAIDLAW developed an unauthorized, wildcat strike (the only difference from Cahokia and Gm which were authorized) in regards to low wages and benefits and unfair practices with its union. The drivers walked out after formally asking the National Labor Relations Board to end their association with School Transportation and Allied Workers' Laborers Local 509. According to the drivers, the union signed off on a 90-day contract extension without their approval. But as of this writing, the wildcat strike is over and they are back to work but they are working without a contract. Following GM is the other one of the Detroit Three, Chrysler. Thousands of United Auto Workers members walked off the job in Fenton and at other Chrysler plants across the country in the second strike action taken this month. Progress had been reported Wednesday morning in the contract negotiations between the union and Chrysler in regards to health benefits, but several key issues remained unresolved as the strike deadline neared, according to a person who had been briefed on the talks. The strike at Chrysler comes as UAW members at General Motors Corp. wrapped up voting on their own tentative contract. (NOTE: Chrysler is back on the J.O.B. as of Thursday)

The daycare worker accused of failing to make sure a toddler got off a field trip van at the Science Center will not be prosecuted after all. According to KMOX.com, Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce dropped charges against Delea Payne (PICTURED RIGHT) after talking to other adults helping with that hot August field trip. This all stemmed after the partents of a baby were not charged after their recklessness of not picking up their child in their car at Washington University leading to the child’s death. Hmm, I hate to say it, but if it wasn’t for the parents—who were white and affluent—and their neglect, the 9 to 5 sista would have gotten the book thrown at her......................Now with former Fire Cheif Sheramn george announcing hsi retriment from teh department, it shoul dbe interesting if the African American organization Fire Institute of Racial Equality (FIRE) still wants Mayor Francis Slay recalled after his decision to demote former STL Fire Chief Sherman George to Deputy Chief last week. According to reports, the mayor is wiping th dust from his shoulders of the threat. He’s reported on KMOX-Radio on the recall, “I’ve got a job to do and I‘m gonna keep doin’ it. In order for the recall to go in effect, FIRE must get 43,000 signatures from registered voters. For more info on this recall , go to the organization’s website at http://www.f-i-r-e.org. .........................Big Brother is coming to the STL area. This month, police will begin installing a network of surveillance cameras downtown. The network is designed to provide a high-tech edge in the fight to bring down St. Louis' crime numbers, which topped an FBI index released last month. The eight wireless video cameras that will be mounted from elevated vantage points can pan 360 degrees. They can tilt just about any direction. They can zoom-in close enough to magnify a license plate from two city blocks away. And they can record outdoor footage 24 hours a day. Hmmm, can someone say beware North St. Louis?....................................The controversy on who owns the right to put on Martini Mondays continues. According to a source, the owner of the Jazz Loft allegedly sent a threatening email to the former creator, Alice Prince (who works with local hip-hop organization Black on Black/Quit Playing Group) , who warned patrons that their Martini Mondays was no more at the Jazz Loft. The threat is based on the club’s allegations that Prince was passing out fliers under BB/QP and in the club’s opinion “slandering “the Loft’s Martini Mondays. I have been hearing commercials on 100.3 The Beat with Kik the 1st Lady saying that Martini Mondays are still on and poppin at the Loft. Then my source was saying that Prince owns the name to Martini Mondays and is seeking another venue to have it. Then I got an email Tuesday from STLevents showing that Martini Mondays with the Loft was not packed and according to STLevents “anyone can embellish.” This is getting gangsta for real.

There’s been some movin and shakin on the airwaves at Clear Channel this week. This week, you all who have been listening to Majic 104.9 between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m were probably wondering why personality Garth Adams is on that shift and not BT. Well, according my source, B.T. has been F.I.R.E.D. As of last Friday. From my source, BT(PICTURED ON LEFT OF PIC) , who had been with Majic for about a year (who replaced the Real JR), was allegedly a part of a payola scheme with another Clear Channel employee who also was a popular club promoter. From the street, both guys were getting money under the table from newbie rappers who wanted their music played on the radio. Then as of this writing, I got an email from Majic 104.9 personality Tammie Holland of Tony Scott and the Breakfast Crew show and she wrote : Tony Scott & Tammie Holland are trading in their morning coffee for afternoon ice tea. Starting Monday, October 22nd Tony and Tammie will move to the afternoons on Majic 104.9 to make way for the infamous Steve Harvey Morning Show. From the email it looks like The Breakfast Crew is going to take the spot that B..t. once had. Hmm, interesting.............................

Is Cards manager Tony Larussa about to go to NYC? Rumor has it that because the Cards did not get in the pennant race this year and Larussa—who live sin Cali-- has yet to call in to the Cards office saying he would like to return to his gig of 12 years, that Larussa may not return.. Now that the New York Yankees are out of the baseball playoffs and its manager Joe Torre failed to get them in the running for the World Series, Torre’s job is finito. Rumor has it that Larussa is one of the names for the running for the NYC gig. After the firing of Cards GM, vet Walt Jocketty, it looks pretty eminent that Larusssa may stay in Cali for a minute to get more sun before his final decision.

I hear that a lot of the STL socialites turned out for SYGU Group member Eddie Hollman’s (PICTURED IN ORANGE)30th B-day party in Chi-town last weekend. There were people in from all over and you know the STL was in the house!!DJ Needles made the trip to be on the 1's & 2's and the Chicago DJ's put it down too! MIA (MISSING IN ACTION) FILE. What ever happened to local actress/singer Alicia Simpson?
MIA FOUND—I was flipping through a Vital Voice in the Entertainment section and saw a picture of the cast of New Line Theatre’s new play, “Sex, Drugs and Rick and Roll, and saw that it is performed by the theatre’s alums including local actress Kine Brown! I’m glad she is still doing acting and I hope to check it out one day and surprise her…….I also got an email from Communique Public relation’s Renee Thomas Woods who was telling that her old email account was going to be finito and she gave me her new one.
TMP(TOO MUCH PLAYIN)-FILEThis past Sunday, I was at a Phillips 66 Gas Station paying for my gas before I hot the J.O.B. and there’s this short, light-skinned ghetto sista, who was in her late 20s, who I saw there and for some reason I had a feelin she was goin to start a scene up in there. Why do you ask? Well she was in line on the celly talking loud about her business (her children, house problems, etc.). So, when I got a few items and got in line, she was getting down talking about her problem son the cell phone. IN my mind I was like, “Why does she have to be all loud on the cell phone talking about her business??” To me, people who do that, I think wants attention and if, it’s a sista, think its cute to be on the phone and talking loud about their business. Well, just as I was doing my own version of Ghetto Theories, this brotha who in line in front of her paying for his items turned around givin her a shut-up look. She kept on talking. After he paid, he got to the door and said, “Shhhhhhhh, no one wants to hear your problems, baby.” She stopped her conversation for two seconds and said, very ghetolly and loudly, “You ain't my man so you can’t tell me what to do.” He then said, “But no one wants to hear all that.” She then said to her girlfriend on the phone, “Girl, nothing, some man who probably didn’t get no pussy from his woman over the weekend.” Then she kept on talking and paid for her beer. The cashier, who was a skater boi type guy, actin’ as though nothing went down. But I’m sure she will have some more altercations with folks up in there. TOO MUCH PLAYIN.
