OUT 319--STL-TIDBITZ AND MORE!

Hello OUTTOWN FANS, Ma’atology here again for ya. Herre is the latest stuff that is happening in the STL:

This week the STL area was saddened to hear the news of three children who are currently fighting for their lives in a St. Louis hospital. Last Thursday, a man, Gregory Richards III who was speeding in the Riverview area in St. Louis and causing his car to airborne into the back of a house on the 5400 block of Partridge Avenue. The result was three children who were playing on the computer getting crushed under the car when it hit the house. The children are Isiah McDaniel, 7, who suffered a skull fracture. Another child, Ania Martin, 10, who suffered several broken bones and chest and lung injuries. A third child, Miguel Ashford, 8, suffered head injuries. They are currently in critical condition at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Vincent Brown (PICTURED), the uncle of the injured children, was left to clean up and fix his mother's house, while worrying about his injured niece and nephews. "They were actually just in there sitting at a computer game and before they knew it they were being broad-sided with a car," he said to stltoday.com. "So it's real devastating to me and my family."Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson said the home is next to a city firehouse, known as "the 27s," and the injured children were well known to the firefighters there. All three children go to Meramec Elementary School. Police say it's still unclear whether the three were hit by the car or debris. The house suffered significant damage. Thoughts an d prayers go out to the family. (SEE OUT 315 for more info on how you can help the family )

Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt Had his State of the State Address on Tuesdayin Jefferson city (I know, yawl were probably hoping it didn’t affect the American Idol premiere. LOL). Anyway, he talked about the usual stuff (the economy, health care, etc.), but critics hat Blunt used the podium mostly to attack the record of Democratic candidate Jay Nixon who is running against GOP Blunt in the November elections.

Looks like crime is down in St. Louis. Well, at least according to Police Chief Joe Mokwa in a recent press conference. According to the department, crime in St. Louis dropped nearly 16 percent in 2007 from the previous year with significant declines in the number of robberies, rapes and auto thefts. Mokwa attributed the decrease to the hard work of his department and some creative initiatives that commanders launched in the last year. He also reported that property crimes were down 16.6 percent while crimes against persons dropped 11.1 percent, according to the department. Murder was the only crime that saw in increase with a 7 percent. Meanwhile, rape reports dropped 24.3 percent, robbery went down 12.3 percent and vehicle theft dropped 27.3 percent. Now, do you all feel safe?

East St. Louis can breathe a sigh of relief for now in regards to the city’s hospital not having to merge with another hospital. The Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board postponed its decision on the proposed merger of the two hospitals, Kenneth Hall regional Hospital (formerly St. Mary’s) in East St. Louis and Touchette Regional in Centerville, citing the need to further analyze financial information submitted by the Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation, which owns both of the hospitals. The postponement came at a crowded Springfield meeting attended by hundreds of East St. Louis residents from a rally call heralded by East St. Louis Mayor Alvin Parks(PICTURED). On early Tuesday, over 700 East St. Louis residents took to 20 charter buses to Springfield, Ill. To protest the merger. Parks planned the trip on MLK’s b-day The city paid for all the expenses for the trip (even the pizzas that were by the stack loads as they boarded. LOL). With a little unity, we can make a difference. Power to the people. Big Ups east Boogie!

Looks like State Rep. John Bowman is going to the Big House. Bowman, a Democrat from St. Louis County, pleaded guilty last Friday to his role in a bank and credit card fraud scheme. Bowman, who was in the Capitol halls this week for the legislative session’s opening, pleaded guilty to bribing a bank officer, a misdemeanor. He faces up to one year in prison. He also agreed to resign his legislative seat effective Jan. 31. Bowman is chairman of the Legislative Black Caucus Bowman was among 16 people who received credit cards or lines of credit in a scheme said to have cost the bank $1.2 million. Bowman was the last to face trial in the case; all others pleaded guilty..................................... The McKnight Road overpass came down this week, becoming the third overpass to fall since the Highway 40 project began Jan. 2. It will be closed for six months..............................Last week was the 1st year anniversary of the Miracle in Missouri/ Shawn Horbeck—Ben Ownby –Michael Devlin kidnapping drama............................Missouri State Rep Clair McCaskill and St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley for their support of Democratic Presidential candidate Illinois Senator Baraka last week. We’ll see what will happen with that endorsement when the Missouri and Illinois primaries come here Feb. 5 during Super Tuesday.

St. Louis boxer Devon Alexander will be punching his way to pay per view this weekend, Jan 19. After years of training, Alexander. goes to New York for the biggest fight of his career. Alexander will be on the under card of the HBO Pay-Per-View bout between Roy Jones Jr. and Felix Trinidad. Alexander will be going up against former World Champion DeMarcus "Chop-Chop" Corley, but his trainer Kevin Cunningham believes Alexander is more than ready. Alexander would improve to 14 and 0 with a win and from there the sky's the limit.........................Speaking of St. Louis sports people doin their thing, last Friday, Rams linebacker Chris Draft and running back Steve Jackson player hosted a showing of Denzel Washington’s “The Great Debaters” at the Chase Park Plaza Theatre for 30 high school kids from the ST. Louis Public Schools. Draft and Jackson are supporters of SLPS’ Fresh Start Program that helps high school students choose alternative means of bettering their education.

What’s goin on with StL rapper Chingy and the rumors of a sex tape with R&B singer Ciara and his hating gay people? Well, according to the rapper, the he allegations are false. On a recent appearance on Wendy Williams’ Experience Radio Show in NYC, Chingy talked about such things but he felt that he was made to look “like a cornball.” On SOHH.com, Chingy talked about his recent appearance on the top rated Wendy Williams Experience radio show. He claims that he only let Charlamagne Tha God, Williams; sidekick make him look like an idiot because he was tired. He also cleared up rumors about his hating gay people. Well either way, if it was a stunt or not, it must have done serious damage to the 1st week sales of his new CD, “Hate it or Love it” that sold a dismal 13,000 copies and debuting at #81 on the Billboard 200 Album chart. To check out the video of Chingy clearing up the rumors go to

St. Louis native/model/Baby Phat mogul/reality show star Kimora Lee has done some sexy ads recently. One is a fashion ad with current beau actor Djimon Hounsou in Harper’s Bazaar and the other is a PETA ad (BELOW) with her diggie Zoe entitled, “Be an Angel for Dogs.”

Is it safe to call them both "Dimora?"

Three St. Lousians are doin their thing in the fields of modeling and acting. They are:

AND

Former St. Louisan personal trainer Kyle Robinson was recently seen as an actor on an episode of BET’s “Hell Date.” He is currently a restaurant server in L.A. waiting for that big break.
AND

Fifteen year-old Webster Groves High School student Karlie Kloss can be seen on the cover of this month’s Teen Vogue. She is signed to Elite Management and has appeared on the runways in the States and overseas. Happy belated 40th b-day to STL architect and house party coordinator Anthony Robinson who had a b-day party Saturday at F15teen then after party at hs crib on McPherson (Hmmm, I wonder what happeend there? Any cake served? LOL)...............Radio One’s WHHL 104.1 did some behind the scenes job cuts last week at the radio station and DJ Metti Metti went back to North Carolina before the cuts started (the same station that cut the Craig Black Morning Show personalities Blac and Wendi mid 2007)!................................... KYHU (Keep Your Head UP) to Ronald “Mookie” Gavin, owner of Printing Etc. who is going away to serve jail time for drug possession. His family and friends had a party recently for him at Club Xes.

And lastly, RIP to Marty Hendin, VP of PR with the St. Louis Cards. The Cardinals’ long-time vice president of community relations, died late Saturday night at St. John's Mercy Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Hendin had worked for the Cardinals since 1973, holding positions in public relations, marketing and community relations. He was 59.
