Herres whats happening in the area:
We had two incidents involving college campuses but with different outcomes in the Illinois area. On a regional tip was the shootings that
Happened at the Dekalb campus of Northern Illinois University and the gunman Steven Kazmierczak. The gunman shot 21 people, killing six, inside a lecture hall last Thursday.
The result is that police still do not have a theory as to why Kazmierczak opened fire on the crowded lecture hall. As recently as spring 2007, the gunman had been a graduate student in sociology at the DeKalb campus, Among the other unanswered questions are why Kazmierczak targeted that particular building and class and why he carried out the killings on Valentine's Day, Grady said. There were no clues in the note or package he sent to his former girlfriend shortly before the attack. Around 3 p.m. CT, last Thursday, the gunman walked out from behind a screen on the stage of the 200-seat Cole Hall and opened fire, NIU President John Peter told CNN. The gunman was armed with a shotgun and two handguns and was dressed in all black, DeKalb Police Chief Donald Grady said. "It started, and it stopped very quickly," Grady reportedly said.
Closer to home was a Southwestern Illinois College student, Steven Ellis, on the Belleville campus area faced charges after police said he threatened to shoot students on Friday at the Belleville campus. A day after the NIU shootings, Ellis approached another student and attempted to recruit him in a plan to shoot SWIC students in a plot similar to the shootings at Northern Illinois University the day before. Officials in the police department then called the sheriff's department, which immediately sent investigators to the campus to pick up Ellis for questioning, Johnson said. Investigators said they did not know whether Ellis was serious about his plans, but that they were taking the threat seriously. While investigators interviewed Ellis, other investigators searched Ellis' home and found nothing substantial in regards to a threat. Yet, if any weapons or plans were found, Ellis could face a stiffer felony charge that carries a possible penalty of up to 30 years in prison. Ellis remains in the St. Clair County Jail on $100,000 bail. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison.
I think he should get life, cause he was planning to take the life others. That’s just me.
There were two tragedies that occurred later in the week that involved a St. Lousi policeman and a bellevilel girl. An off-duty St. Louis police officer, Lt. Robert Cooney died after falling off the roof of his home in south St. Louis., and was in cardiac arrest when emergency workers arrived this past Tuesday. The officer was taken to Barnes where he died from his injuries. Lt. Cooney was with the police department for 19 years. He is survived by his wife, a 13-year old daughter and a 10-year old son. Lt. Cooney's wife is a long-time employee at AG Edwards-Wachovia. Her co-workers set up a trust fund to help the children. You can contribute at: AG Edwards/Wachovia Corp. 10369 Clayton Road St. Louis, MO 63131 Or you may call Karen Webb at (314)991-7848............................In regards to the Belleville girl, The Belleville Police Department says charges could be filed as early as today, Wednesday in the death of a 5-month-old baby. Police say they got a phone call Sunday night from someone in the 1100 block of Belle Valley Drive that the girl was not breathing. Officers found the baby girl on the living room floor. They revived the baby and took her to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville. From there, she was airlifted to Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center in St. Louis. Investigators noticed the baby had bruising around her head and neck. They say the 5 month old died this past Monday from her injuries. Police say there were two adults home at the time of the incident: The child's mother and a friend. That friend has since been taken into custody. He has not yet been charged. OUTTOWN gives its prayers to the families of the victims................Missouri Senator Clair McCaskill got some TV time on the HBo show, “Real Time with Bill Mahere” last weekend. Via satellite from St. Louis, Mccaskill talked about her controversial decision to campaign for and support Illinois Sen. Barack Obama for prez. She was the only female state senator out of 16 who endorsed Barack. On the decision she said, “ It was a difficult decision. Life’s too short. After what Bush has done and setting the tone in the country, I decided not to play it politically safe and with some grading from my 18-year-old daughter. “ In regards to the importance of Missouri in deciding the presidency she said, “ We are a microcosm very much like the county. What happens in Missouri happens elsewhere. That’s why I chose Barack. He’s enthusiastic and will lighten the dark days of the past seven years .” She also talked about how it was to get bills passed as well as laws to end the Iraq war because of the constant filibusters from proponents of the war as well as Pres. Bush;s veto power which then she said, .” We must vote for Obama. He is a voice of change.” I applaud McCaskill for having the gonads to step out on faith and the fire (as well as following Oprah Winfrey’s footsteps) to go against the grain and support Barack. And if Missouri is any indication of the election, she made the right choice!

But we’re willing t bet she will be at all the aftyerparties which will be , in her, world, totally hot.......................................... For the VIPs, Budweiser Select will present Kimora Lee Simmons’Fabulocity. At nectar lounge. There, Simmons will launch St. Louis Fashion Week (March 25-30) with a red carpet soiree........................................Well, it looks like East St. Louis is on the verge of losing its only hospital as it was announced this week that the Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation expects to transfer from Kenneth Hall Regional Hospital by March 3rd its outpatient cardiac testing, mammography services and outpatient physical therapy. Those services will go to Touchette Regional Hospital in Centreville, Ill. A decision on that is expected in April. Hmmm, wonder what caused a fire to destroy an abandoned building in Brooklyn, Illinois that once housed the gentleman's club."Fantasy Land" building early today? Reports said that fire crews were able to get the fire out fairly quickly, but remained on the scene to put out hot spots. Well, for one, they weren’t gonna get the kind of hot spots that was once house dup in there, that’s for sure. LOL./
The Riverfront Times did an full expose on Vashon High School Coach Anthony Bonner last week on the ins and outs of his gig after the firing of veteran coach Floyd Irons in 2006 (Bonner by the way was coached by Irons when he was a student at Vashon in the mid 80s) . On Irons, Bonner said, “ he was once "great friends" with Irons, but that they have not spoken since he became coach.” He said that he hopes one day “his stance will change and we will get to talk. But I still admire and respect him, and will always be in his debt." If you haven’t checked out the article, go to http://www.riverfronttimes.com/ and pull it up. …..As OUTTOWN reported last week, St. Louis American City Editor Alvin Reid made his tour of the radio stations in the ST. Louis area talking about his hometown Kirkwood and the devastation after the tragic killings of city officials. He was on Donnybrook last week, a week after the killings. Reid, who is a guest panelist when former Riverfront Times publisher Ray Hartmann is absent from the show, talked in a surprisingly subdued tone about the happenings and was optimistic in the healing process of the city. Reid said that he commend the media, especially at St. Louis American, for their coverage. He also talked about the email he received a few minutes before being on Donnybrook Your Turn with panelist Wendy Weiss the night of the shooting that he had a feeling that Thornton was the shooter, that he knew Thornton and in, his words, in regards to Thornton’s actions and antics at city hall meetings prior, “knew what was going on and took no step to try and do something about it.”
I hear that King of R&B Bobby Brown clowned at the after party at Nectar that doubled as his b-day party. OUTTOWN heard he danced all up in VIP and was doing his best in trying to rekindle is Every Little Step moves back in the day. OUTTOWN also heard that Brown did a trip dance, literally, at the concert last Friday at Scott Trade and was able to safe face and continue the show.
