OUT 398--STL-TIDBITZ AND MORE!

Hola amigos! Its Hump Day. Ma’atology here one more time for ya this week on OUTTOWN. Things are still rattlin and rollin in the STL area from the weather, politics, sports and entertainment. There was no way I was gonna be able to mail in this blog and stick a Forever stamp on it this week. LOL
Herre’s what was and is goin on this week.

Now that the Missouri area is tryin to calm her nerves on the series of aftershocks, tornadoes were blowin through the State. On Tuesday tornado-ravaged areas of Missouri, Arkansas and several other states are still picking up from the weekend's killer twisters. The National Weather Service said the twisters killed 27 people Saturday and Sunday in the Plains and the Southeast. A tornado warning was issued for southern Shelby County in northeast Missouri on Tuesday after one was spotted there. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. Eight of tvictims in Oklahoma and Missouri died in cars (THE WORST PLACE TO BE ), troubling experts who say the inside of a vehicle is one of the worst places to be during a twister. One of those killed was gospel singer -songwriter Joyce "Dottie" Rambo when the bus she was in ran off a road in southwest Missouri and struck an embankment. Rambo, 74, of Nashville, Tenn., died in the crash about two miles east of Mount Vernon on Interstate 44, Rambo was on her way to a Mother's Day performance in North Richland Hills, Texas, according to her Web site.

Is it us, or did I just see some gas stations on the East Side have 3.99 a gallon on their marquees?????
Lemme repeat. Is it us, or did I just see some gas stations on the East Side have 3.99 a gallon on their marquees?????

Even before polls closed in West Virginia, where Obama lost to Clinton, he was campaigning in Missouri, a battleground between the two parties in recent elections. He spoke at an economic town-hall event at a clothing manufacturing plant in Cape Girardeau County, home to many working-class voters. Obama lost the county to Clinton in the Feb. 5 primary, even though he narrowly carried the state. Campaign aides said the event underscores two key Obama goals. He wants to start wooing the white, blue-collar workers who favored Clinton in many states and who may be receptive to McCain’s appeal to independent, moderately conservative voters this fall. And he sees the economy as a crucial issue, and one in which he hopes to tie McCain to the Bush administration’s unpopularity. To see some of his speech, go to http://youtube.com/watch?v=lGm8vT7sIhg......................................

There were several unrelated shootings goin on the STL area that is worth mentioning. Five people died Monday after a day of violence in St. Louis.in three separate shootings. Two died during a robbery at Rock Bottom Wholesale on Howard shortly after noon, one being Jivabhai Patel, owner of the business and an employee.
Another employee, a 24-year-old woman, was shot in the legs and is in stable condition. Police say three men demanded money before shooting (two of the men have been captured as of this writing) Minutes later, two people were shot to death on Gano near Fairground Park. The fifth victim was killed Monday night on Grand near the site of the first shooting...................................... What was up with the security up at Lambert Airport loafin on the job as a homeless man snuck pass them and got on a regional jet e to sleep last Wednesday? The man, Dan Coruni, slipped past security guards at a perimeter check point while guards were inspecting a vehicle. Well cuz of the act, security changes are underway at Lambert Airport after a homeless man made his way onto a plane Wednesday morning and fell asleep. Two security guards have been suspended and Coruni, has been charged with a misdemeanor for slipping past security and onto an airplane No passengers were onboard at the time. But check this out, the Lambert police chief is called this incident a "hiccup" in the system. A hiccup? More like a choke! With all the security measures goin on these days with planes, it took a homeless man to topple down their UNfoolproof system. And besides, the guy didn’t do any harm, he just wanted to get some zzzs and do it in luxury. TMP!

And What’s up with someone pretending to be the FBI in Union, MO?

Look like the Centene project is back on a go. After three years of controversy over Centene Corp.'s plans to build an expanded headquarters, the Clayton Board of Aldermen Tuesday took the first steps toward officially reviving a more than $200 million proposal that promises hundreds of new jobs. Phase 1 will be a 24-story office and retail tower with a large public plaza at Hanley Road and Carondelet Avenue and a parking garage along Forsyth. Phase 2, will be a 14-story office and retail tower on the site of the Library Limited building at Hanley and Forsyth. This 200 million dollar project was put on hold twice (we guess the third time was NOT the charm) . The first time was in 2005, after Centene won approval from Clayton for the project but the proposal was derailed in a court challenge by some property owners to the city's use of eminent domain to take their land. The second was lat year when the company to become part of Ballpark Village(via former Cardinals prez mark Lamping who has now resigned via STL Mayor Francis Slay) beside the new Busch Stadium in downtown St. Louis, but that plan fell through in March.
Alton has been getting in the newz these days. The first was the bomb scare at Alton High School and subsequent cop surveillance of the school last month, then the fight-turn-to shooting with two Alton residents this month and the third was the killing of West Alton’s James Williams who died from a Tasering after a St. Charles County, Missouri Sheriff's deputy tried to break up a fight with he and his sister and shocked him with a Taser. Allegedly, the deputy used his Taser after Wilson started threatening the officer and coming at him. Wilson lost consciousness and deputies' efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. As of this writing, the deputy is on administrative leave pending the outcome of a departmental investigation. Why do we at OUTTOWN get the feeling that the investigation will show that the force that was used was necessary and the argument would be they thought he had a gun?................................St. Louis police released a surveillance camera photo (WHICH WE ARE SURE YAWL HAVE SEEN ON THE NEWZ BY NOW) of a woman they say is a person of interest in the case of the baby left in a trash bin on Monday night. The woman is believed to be in her 20s and was wearing a white jacket, blue jeans and a headband, possibly wearing eyeglasses. She is considered a “person of interest” in the case, police said.Police have been searching for the mother of a baby found wrapped in a blanket under some branches and leaves in a garbage bin in an alley in the 5700 block of Waterman. She was found by a resident who was throwing away lawn waste. The female person of interest was last seen on the DeBaliviere Metro Link platform on Monday evening. Anyone with information on the identity of the person of interest, or any who has information that may be helpful in identifying the mother of the abandoned infant, is asked to contact the St. Louis Police Child Abuse Unit at 444-5817 or Crimestoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477)................................................

What was up with the Holiday Inn parking lot burglars in South County this week. Were they trying to do the Robin Hood thing? Well, it didn’t work,. They both got arrested soon after and as of this writing the other two are still on the lam.

Another Nelly is making a name for themselves in St. Louis. Well, this one spells their name Nellie and it’s a female caught after 40 years after escaping a mental hospital in STL. Bradley, now 77, may stand trail for a murder in 1969. Bradley was arrested two days after a man eating lunch in a St. Louis tavern was killed in a random shooting in 1969. Six days after she was committed to the St. Louis State Hospital, she escaped. Bradley was arrested in Chicago last week, where she was using her maiden name, Nellie Ballenger. She was apparently tracked through her Social Security number, which she used to apply for welfare.Under the name Ballenger, Bradley spent 10 years in prison in Illinois for shooting two people, both of whom survived, in a department store. The shooting was very like the one in Missouri -- a woman becoming enraged, pulling out a gun and firing at random. The Missouri case was reopened when a judge decided to take a look at old open files. Damn, she was a fa sho a bad mama jama. But where is the statute of limitations fit in this case? I mean, she’s almost 80. What can she do now? She needs to be rehabilitated. Not executed....................................................
Looks like the Missouri House is getting a taste of summer fever as both House and Senate cannot agree on yea or nay on several hot topics such as voter IDs, the scrap law, immigration and expanding health care(and getting State rep. Jamilla Nahsheed up in arms up in the House!) . What makes it interesting is this is the last week for them before they break for the summer and return in November . Man talk about some serious filibustin, more like cockblockin. What’s really going on?..........................................Speaking of politicians look like there’s been an email war of sorts between Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt and Attorney General Jay Nixon these days up in Jeff City. Blunt’s staff has targeted Attorney General Jay Nixon’s office, in a not-too-subtle attempt to broaden the controversy over the preservation of state emails. Blunt chief of staff Trish Vincent blasted Nixon in a statement Tuesday, saying that he’s been resisting the turning over of his staff e-mails and backup tapes sought by the governor in an open-records request made in March. The statement comes a day after an independent investigation team set up by Nixon filed suit against the governor, alleging that current or former members of the governor’s administration had destroyed e-mails and ordered the destruction of backup tapes. Is this Watergate all over again? Or is this a game of mud in the sling cat now that Nixon put in his bid for Governor after Blunt spoke earlier of this of not running for reelection? Or is it cuz Blunt an elephant and Nixon is a Donkey. Hmmmm..............................................................The body of Keith Fietsam was found Sunday by family and friends who were out searching the shorelines of the Missouri river. The 37-year-old Winfield man had been missing since a canoe tipped over on last Tuesday. Missouri Water Patrol officials say the body of Fietsam was a passenger in a canoe Tuesday when the canoe was caught in a strong current and capsized. The other man, Leo Geringer, swam to shore and called for help. The search for Fietsam included search dogs and recovery boats.

May 16 will be Saturday and that’s when several students, professors and community members at Wash U are expected to protest the honorary degree that will be given to Phyllis Schlafly. More than 30 students representing Washington University's graduate and undergraduate schools met on Monday to begin planning a protest of the University's decision to award an honorary doctorate of humane letters from the College of Arts & Sciences and the Law School (and is an alumni of both) .They are protesting the fact that Schlafly is a leader of the national conservative movement since the 1960s and are against her stances on marital rape, abortion and the role of women in society to speak out. The students involved with the effort are looking to find a way to reverse the University's decision to award Schlafly a degree or, if that proves impossible, to make a statement of protest during the commencement exercises. As an honorary degree recipient, Schlafly will not address graduates, she will only be awarded the degree. Schlafly is
one of six scheduled to receive an honorary doctorate at commencement. Well we will see what happens, but more than likely, she will receive the degree as police we are sure will be at hand for any one being unruly.

STL Cards manager Tony Larussa got ejected from an away gam e with the the Milwaukee Brewers this week. LaRussa, as well as catcher Yadier Molina were both ejected in the bottom of the fifth inning for arguing balls and strikes. After being ejected, Molina left his shin guards, chest protector and gloves at home plate. You cant win em all Tony.

And speaking of sports and winning, whats the rumor goin around that Rams player Torry holt may leave the Rams after his contract expires in 2010?
Holt's made some recent comments about him becoming a Carolina Panther after his contract with e rams expire and him becoming a free agent. Holt was at a golf outing in North Carolina just after his brother Terrence signed with the Carolina Panthers.
"I wanted to send in my resignation to the Rams and see if I could join him," Torry joked. "I'm excited, but I'm also a little jealous because I've always wanted an opportunity to come back home." Holt is from Greensboro, NC and was a star at NC State. Well as they say, speak it in the air and it may fall down truth. It may be evident especially it was clearly evident that Holt has had had
a rocky relationship with head coach Scott Linehan (remember the cussin out he gave to Linehan last season during the Rams losing streak?) and the firing of fellow receiver Isaac Bruce this offseason we are sure didn’t help matters. Hmm.

It looks like Missouri native David Cook may just win the 7th season of American Idol. As of this writing, Cook was in the Top 3 with fellow competitors David Archuletta and Syesha Mercado and would be waiting if he and another contestant will be in the finals next week (we are willing to bet he will at least make the Top 2). Last Friday, Cook was met by hundreds of fans packed downtown Kansas City to get a glimpse of Cook. The Blue Springs native (which is a sattellite city to Kansas City, Mo) performed a few songs for the crowd downtown, who cheered wildly for him. Gov. Matt Blunt named Friday David Cook Day for Missouri. Cook also received a key to the city of Blue Springs. He also performed during the Royals game at Kauffman Stadium. American idol fans in the Missouri area will get a chance to see cook as he tours with the other nine finalists in the American Idol Pop Tart Tour as it hits St. Louis on July 18 at the Scottrade Center and Kansas City August 29 at the Sprint Center.

Olympic star and East St. Louis native Jackie Joyner-Kersee is gearing up for health in her hometown. Her namesake center in East St. Louis is currently preparing for its inaugural 2008 Metro Saint Louis Double Dutch Day Competition, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8. The competition is intended to help reduce racial disparities in health and childhood obesity. St. Louis Public Schools and East St. Louis School District No. 189 may send at least two teams of four students and two alternates. Winners will advance to a state-wide competition. Also she will be in twon for two fundraisers . the first is the 5th Annual Mary Ruth Joyner Mother’s Day Luncheon and Fashion Show , from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 10 at the center. The second is the Olympic star bringing awareness to asthma (that she has lived with since college) with an inaugural Jackie Joyner-Kersee Rise Above Asthma Walk. The one-mile and 5k walk will jump off at 8:15 a.m. Sunday, May 18 in Forest Park. Also, summer day camp at the center runs June 8 to August 9, 7 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday. Donations to the center/foundation should be sent to: Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation, 101 Jackie Joyner-Kersee Circle, East St. Louis, IL., 62204. Anyone interested in events or activities may visit
jackiejoyner-kerseefoudation.org or call (618) 274-5437. We don’t know bout yawl but wouldn’t she be perfect to host a reality series called “America’s Next Top Track Star? LOL

Superstar golfer TIGER Woods will return to St. Louis for a professional golf tournament this fall to defend his title in September at the BMW Championship, which will be held at Bellerive Country Club in Ladue. Appearing by video teleconference for BMW Championship Media Day at Bellerive Country Club, Woods explained he is still recovering from surgery on his left knee. And while he recently started knocking a dimpled ball around, he still can't unbutton his shirt and take a real cut. Woods has not been in town to play golf since the ill-fated World Golf Championship-American Express Championship at Bellerive in 2001. That tournament was cancelled in midweek due to the events of Sept. 11, a development that left everyone demoralized. Two days later after the tournament was officially canceled, Woods said he "stole" a Buick and drove 18 hours nonstop back to his Florida home. Woods also said that he expects to be fit to play at th eMemorial Tourney in Ohio on May 29 and in the US Open in June.

Did yawl peep out Tony Scott, Tammie Holland and Arika Parr of the Tony Scott Show on Fox 2 last week on a segment celebrity Deal or Dud hosted by Fox 2 personality Elliot Weiler. IOf you are not familiar, the segment takes local celebs and have them test out products to see if they work or not. Well, the Tony Scott Show personalities were testing a $15 sound amplifier called Listen-Up. It's supposed to turn ordinary hearing into extraordinary hearing by amplifying the sounds in a room. They put Tony's co-hosts on one side of the room, asked them to whisper, then asked Tony if he could hear them. He could! But when we added some music for background noise, Tony says he could make out that a conversation was going on, but he couldn't distinguish precise words. Scott said that the product was half deal and half dud. Well, at least they didn’t make Tony do the Perfect Pushup test like they did Mayor Francis Slay a few weeks back. LOL..............................Speaking of radio personalities and radio, there is a new country station broadcast on the radiowaves—KZQZ AM a radio station broadcasting at 1430 kHz on the AM band in St. Louis. It took the place of WIL-FM which ended in March (The classic country format continues on sister station 1510 WXOZ in Highland, Illinois.)
Did you also know that legendary country singer Eddy Arnold, who died recently, did radio in the early 1950s in St. Louis?

Looks like the Casinos werent so lucky in the St Louis area last month. According to figures from Missouri and Illinois regulators. Gamblers spent $85.1 million in St. Louis' six casinos (Casino Queen, President casino, Lumiere Place, Ameristar, Argosy Casino and Harrah’s) That's up 3.2 percent from the same month last year, the fourth straight month of gains. But specifically each casino has taken a hit no more than 20 percent off profits. The growth continues to be driven by the half-billion-dollar Lumière Place casino downtown, which opened in December. But while Lumière has helped grow the market, it has taken business from competitors. Harrah's in Maryland Heights was off 15.5 percent for the month, and the Illinois smoking ban continues to hurt the Casino Queen in East St. Louis and the Argosy Casino-Alton. Ameristar Casino in St. Charles, however, posted its first revenue gain since Lumière opened, a small increase.
Ameristar continued to lead the market, accounting for nearly 30 percent of all gambling in St. Louis. It was followed by Harrah's at 27 percent, then Casino Queen and Lumière, each with about 15 percent market share, then Argosy and the President Casino, which spent one weekend closed for flooding. Every casino saw business fall from March to April, but several blamed that on March having five weekends this year as well as the smoking ban in Illinois.

Did yawl hear that a white student will be valedictorian at the historically black male Morehouse College in Atlanata? Yep (History has been made for sure ) Joshua Packwood (4.0 GPA), of Kansas City, Mo,,
made history as the first white valedictorian in the 141-year history of Morehouse.Packwood certainly wasn't the school's first white student, but he eventually became an "unlikely ambassador for the school." He was voted dorm president as a freshman and was a Rhodes scholar finalist. He was popular and nicknamed "Tom Cruise," perhaps before there was any debate whether this was a compliment or an insult. The 22-year-old Missourian will graduate with a 4.0 GPA and a degree in economics, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he is happy that he chose Morehouse over such universities as Columbia, Yale and Stanford. Is it us, or do I sense that he is the future of what African American progress will be aka affirmative action,? Remember THE BOARD OF REGENTS VS BAKKE 1978? Hmmm.

FOX TV has picked up "The Inn," starring Niecy Nash and Jerry O'Connell, from creator Abraham Higginbotham. The multi-camera comedy revolving around the less-than-glamorous staffers at a glamorous New York City hotel. The show's ensemble cast also includes Brando Eaton, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jolene Purdy and Molly Stanton. Jason Bateman helmed the pilot. Abraham Higginbotham, Peter Principato, Paul Young, Brian Dobbins, Carolyn Bernstein and Howard T. Owens are the executive producers for 20th Century Fox Television, Principato-Young Entertainment and Reveille. Nash, if you don’t know, was born in L.A. but spent most of her childhood in St. Louis, Missouri.

Grammy-award winning Country singer Gretchen Wilson has set aside her guitar for a GED. The Pochahantas, Ill native(which is a city in Bond County, near Madison County) dropped out of school after the eighth grade, when she was 15-years-old, and plans to take the test by the end of the summer. Wilson told People magazine that she feels like she's missing out on basic knowledge and that "there was stuff other people know that I don't." How odd, I suffer from that as well. She also mentioned that she wants to be able to help her daughter Grace once her work gets a little more complex. For now, she's fine, or at least I think so since Grace is 6-years-old."I don't want to be ignorant in my daughter's eyes," Wilson added Gretchen herself dropped out of the 9th grade at age 15 to work as a cook and bartender in rural Illinois. In
2008, she completed the GED program. She is currently on a promotional tour for her recently released third album, One of the Boys...................................Happy belated congrats to “This Bitch is Crazy” author Traci Foster who had her baby, Darion Jr.(Hmm, we wonder who’s the daddy? LOL)
And speaking of babies, I am sure STL actress Shawn Guy Pitts has had her baby. Does anyone know what she had?

STL rapper Hakeem tha Dream, had auditions for his bangin debut single, Thick Wit Monday at Lush and part of the video will be shot at Club Society this Saturday .......................................Whatsup with this new club called The Venue located on Skinker and MLK? And lastly, OUTTOWN thought Soundz no longer spun at the Loft, but if our eyes are deceiving us, he was the special DJ (or shall we say MP3-J) for the event Cocktail Dresses and Kufflink Nights at the LOFT. Hmmm, whats really goin with that there?

IN THE MIA (MISSING IN ACTION) FILE—What ever happened to photographer and socialite Demond Meek? MIA FOUND the second half of stlonfire.com—Darryl Luckett who was on the Crown Valley Winery trip on St. Genevieve last Saturday.

BLIND BITZ. Which mover and shaker was rumored to be dead but is still alive? (Hint . It’s not STL rapper Dutch Jackson. This mover and shaker is part of a STL promotions team whose portion of their “club” name can be synonymous to a particular number or a sporting term)

BLIND BITZ…. OPENED WIDE—Apparently someone named Ms. STL got the correct answer of last week’s BLIND BITZ about the STL star who got the boot from a venue after cussin out one of the clientele. They asked what prize they get….well, we didn’t think about that part yet. LOL But what’s interesting was after we responded to them about their choice, they said that they did not attend the venue but the description that we gave suited who they guessed cuz it fit what they would have done. Wow!

Hi.

A bank is a financial institution that accepts deposits and channels those deposits into lending activities. Banks primarily provide financial services to customers while enriching investors. Government restrictions on financial activities by banks vary over time and location. Bank are important players in financial markets and offer services such as investment funds and loans. In some countries such as Germany, banks have historically owned major stakes in industrial corporations while in other countries such as the United States banks are prohibited from owning non-financial companies. In Japan, banks are usually the nexus of a cross-share holding entity known as the keiretsu. In France, bancassurance is prevalent, as most banks offer insurance services (and now real estate services) to their clients.

The level of government regulation of the banking industry varies widely, with countries such as Iceland, having relatively light regulation of the banking sector, and countries such as China having a wide variety of regulations but no systematic process that can be followed typical of a communist system.CLICK HERE

A friend of mine mentioned 2012 last night to me and it's the first I heard about it so I jumped on here out of curiosity. I think it's kind of sick and sounds like a bunch of skeptical jargon.
I choose to live every day like it is the last because let's be real, WHO THE HELL KNOWS what is going to happen or when it's your time to go on. The past is history, the future is a mystery and now is a gift, thats why it's called the present. It's not healthy to sit around and trip out about when you will die. Stop wasting your time you have now.

Not sure where to post this but I wanted to ask if anyone has heard of National Clicks?

Can someone help me find it?

Overheard some co-workers talking about it all week but didn't have time to ask so I thought I would post it here to see if someone could help me out.

Seems to be getting alot of buzz right now.

Thanks
