EVENT-VIEWZ. I checked out STL-native comedian Cedric the Entertainer's afterparty Celebrity that was held at Dolce's Thursday nite in downtown ST, Louis. He was in town for his 2nd Annual Charity Bowling Tourney that was held at the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame bowling spot near Busch Stadium.
I got therre about 10:30 ish and had my only run in with drama. After I got checked in with a VIP band (thanks Mocha) outside of the club and all and then I overaheard the bouncers saying, "No sneakers or hats." Oh shit, I said to myself.
Well, Ive been the social life game for a minute so even though I had on sneaks , I had some dress shoes in the car just in case. So, when I was about to walk up to the bouncer to show my I.D. (Who was actually a trainer at my gym at Bally BTW), he was tellin me that I couldnt go in with sneakers. So, I said no problem and walked (more like trotted) back to my car to put on dress sandals.
I went back with no problem and the bouncer guy told me that he was sorry for the inconvenience and I told him no sweat. So I walked in and perused the crowd downstairs and upstairs (singer Deandre Perryman was the first socialite I saw) . I saw the regulars and some of the movers and shakers. But the anticipation was the possbilities to hobnob with invited celebs Mike Epps, Monique, Holly Robinson Peete, and Michael Clarke Duncan.
In the meantime, I continued walking up and down the steps to see who was therre. I ran into a East St. Louis mover and shaker Teresa Watson who was tellin me about a function she was having the following night to uplift the community against violence that was going to be held at at the East St. Louis City HAll. She was tellin me how her brother was recently killed at a club event hosted by Murphy Lee for no apparent reason and how she was still devasted over it. She She wanted me to do poetry at her event. I told her that I wished I woudl have known a few days in advance and gave her my sympathies on her loss.
It was now going on 11;30 ish and I saw Cedric and his manager Eric Rhone walking up the steps with a few bodyguards to VIP as Ced stoppD and talked with some of well wishers and all, then he and Eric walked into a side area , the V-VIp , a small L area upstairs where he was hosting a free-drink area for the sponsors of the charity (I will get to this later) Anyway, Cedric was friendly with the crowd, even taking pictures with the general admission people downstairs.
But the question on everyone lips was where were the rest of the celebrities. Well, they didnt show up. Now again, I am never the one who is surpised when it comes to situations like this. Just because they were invited, does not mean they are confirmed (Nelly, strangely enough, didn't even show up and he was in town for his Health fair for his charity, FoSho4kids). But it lookD as though people didnt seem to mind casue the music was poppin, the alcohol was pourin and people were gettin their networkin on.
Now, gettin back to the V-VIP section. St. Louis is a peculiar city when it comes to VIP events. I have been to many n my 7 year stint as an enterainmant socialite/journalist and when it comes to VIP events( even the ones where you are specially invited and RSVP), there is always this line of demarcaton between VIPs and V-VIPs. Well, this event was no different.
Here is the breakdown.
#Those who paid 10 bones got in general admission (meaning downstairs access only)
# Then, for 35 bones, you got VIP access--a yellow band and access to downstairs and upstairs.
# Now, there were people who had on yellow and blue bands which represented people who had access to the teenie V-ViP area where Cedric and his crew could party and get free drinks.
(I guess V-V-IP was those who could hang on the chandelier hung on the ceiling. LOL)
Now, don't get me wrong, I ain't mad at the whole set up (cause I wouldnt have gotten in without my VIP connection and of course you had to know the right somone linked to Cedric to get into V-VIP ), but for those who paid 35 bones to get up in VIP, I would have thought that there could have been at least a free drink or two for one or sumpin. Okay? I mean, really like that.
But overall the event was a good networking spot for those who were there to have a good time and be celebrities their damn sleves. LOL
