This month, we are celebrating Women’s History Month. We next feature former State Senator Carol Moseley Braun.

Carol Elizabeth Moseley Braun (born in Chicago August 16, 1947) Braun was educated in the Chicago public school system. Her father, Joseph Moseley, was a law enforcement officer and her mother, Edna, was a medical technician.[2] She graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1969 and earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Chicago in 1972. From 1999 until 2001, she was the United States Ambassador to New Zealand. She was a candidate for the Democratic nomination during the 2004 U.S. presidential election. She currently runs a private law firm, Moseley Braun LLC in Chicago. Moseley Braun has launched a line of organic food products called Ambassador Organics

Here are a FEW NEW BITZ THAT WOULD HAVE POSTED NEXT WEEK:

The St. Louis Rams have released wide receiver Torry Holt this week, the 11th-leading receiver in NFL history. The move had been expected for some time and comes on the heels of the Rams releasing left tackle Orlando Pace. The two moves together cleared about $14 million in salary cap space for the team."The Rams will forever be grateful for the way Torry Holt represented the Rams on the field and in the community," owner Chip Rosenbloom said in a written statement released by the club. "He is an All-Pro in every sense of the word. Over the past 10 seasons Torry has proven himself to be one of the finest wide receivers in league history.

The Rams selected Holt with the sixth overall choice in the 1999 NFL draft and he played 10 seasons for the team.He was selected to seven Pro Bowls. Holt ranks 11th in league history with his 869 catches and 14th with his 12,660 receiving yards. The release of Holt saved the Rams about $8 million in salary cap space after cutting Pace had cleared approximately $6 million in salary cap room. Last week, the Rams released tackle player Orlando Pace.

Steve Harvey and Bow WOW came through the Lou this weekend. Harvey was in town at Left Bank Books Friday to sign copies of his new book, ”Act Like a Lady, Think Like A Man” and on today, Saturday to perform along with his cousin Tommy of his radio show at Chaifetz Arena. Angelou, Reynolds Professor of American Studies at Wake Forest, will deliver the opening address. Carter will give the closing address. The New Baptist Covenant gathering at Wake Forest is free and open to the public. Last week, she headed to Little Rock to present ten Alltel Wireless Words of Wisdom contest winners with $10,000 scholarships. In unrelated news, To the 2495 people who were following Maya Angelou on Twitter, prepare for some bad news: This caged bird is a fake. The tweeting Angelou was revealed as a fake The tweeting Angelou was revealed as a fraud today by her representative at Lordly & Dame, the Boston-based speaking agency. Her agent, David LaCamera, said he had reached out to Twitter when the bogus account first came to his attention a few weeks ago, but he received no satisfaction. The phony Maya Angelou account has been nuked by Twitter. The new one may or may not be controlled by her representatives. Angelou said she dies not tweet.

Could it be true that former Freeman Bosley Junior Show radio perosnality Nicci Raoch may go back to the show? Well, we dont know for sure but when we caught up with Roach during her hosting duties at Suite Soul Spot at Old Rock House this past Wednesday she did say that she missed doin' radio (she left the show two years ago to focus mor eon her job as a recruiter at Webster University) . So when we asked if she was going back on the show she grinned and said, "I talked to Darrion (Phelps)". He is the engineering assistant to the show. Hmmm, sounds like she may just be back. We will keep you posted!

New clubs are opening next weekend in STL downtown: BLACK LABEL Gallery Lounge located on S. 4th Street and THE FACTORY located on 1128 Washington Ave. (SEE EVENT BITZ on these new venues. )

The following are some arts and entertainment bitz that went on this time last year in 2008:

St. Louis native/ model mogul Kimora Lee Simmons (PICTURED WITH WASH U PROFESSOR JEIGH SINGLETON--Photo by Erica M. Brooks (Business Pluss++, Owner/Freelance Photographer) came to her hometown last weekend to be honored and lunch St. Louis fashion Week(as well as to tape the Homecoming episode of her reality show Kimora: Life in the Fab lane) . She was honored with the Key to the City, a Proclamation,. Susan Brock Ripper Award, money to her scholarship at Washington University, appeared at Macys at the Galleria and a private launch party at Lumen as a launch itself for St. Louis fashion Week produced by ALIVE Magazine. She also brought her two beautiful kids, her assistant and her publicist with her to mostly all the events (the kids were not at the party). Oh and her new beau actor Djimon Honsou did not attend. The Gateway Arch reopened its south tram to fanfare Friday, only to have to shut it down for four hours because of a cranky electrical switch. After electricians installed a new part, the south tram resumed hauling tourists at 1:30 p.m. From then on, it ran like it should. The 630-foot-tall Arch runs trams up and down inside both of its steel legs. On July 21, one of the nine cables that move the south tram broke, cutting off power and stranding 260 visitors for as long as three hours. The north tram continued running while the south one was closed for repairs.

Former Chiefs quarterback Trent Green went back to the St. Louis Rams. Green signed on the line on a three-year contract after being released by the Miami Dolphins. Green was expected to be a major contributor in 2007 for the Dolphins, who acquired him in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs last summer. But the 37-year-old saw his season end in disappointing fashion in Week Five when he suffered a Grade Three concussion. He goes to the Rams as the backup to Marc Bulger, Green was a member of the Rams in 1999 and 2000 and his season-ending knee injury in the third exhibition game in 1999 paved the way for Kurt Warner to take over at the position .

Majic 104.9 has brought in yet another nationally syndicated radio show to its local airwaves. Last week, the radio station introduced longtime R&B singer turned radio personality Keith Sweat’s “The Keith Sweat Hotel” Weekdays, 7pm-11pm. The Keith Sweat Hotel is a music-intensive program – R&B and slow jamz from the 70s, 80s, 90s, to today. Also featured on the show, special guests, live in-studio musical performances, and listener confessions, apologies and dedications (Just late last year, The Steve Harvey Show was part of the Majic team in the mornings replacing Tony Scott’s Breakfast Crew Show)…..And speaking of radio personalities, Meddi Meddi returned to Hot 104.1 after leaving late last year (I guess he’s doing what Queen Isis did for a spell of coming back , leaving and coming back, you think?) .

The STL was and will be the site for local and national acts on stage. Last weekend, comedienne Sheryl Underwood brought it down at the Funny Bone in Fairview Heights and even called in on her steady gig on the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Show during her visit talking about her recent appearance on the View as well as talk to Niecy’s radio Show on Foxy 95.5…2004 Americana Idol finalist Nikko Smith will be performing tonite, Wednesday at the Suite Soul Spot @ Old Rock House with opener Teresa Jenee. OUTTOWN heard it was packed to the raptors up in there. It was radio broadcast by z 107.7 who put out that the groups’ manager Diddy was gonna show up, but that was just hear say. ….

OUTTOWN also checked out Night Mother at the Tower Grove Abbey. Put on by Stray Dog Theatre, the 90 minute play (with no intermission) on depression and suicide that affect a mother and daughter was riveting. The play was acted by local actresses Kim Furlow and Donna Weinsting. It was directed by Gary F. Bell.

Why are people makin’ an issue over Chris Brown makin him to be an ”Ike” when there have been many white Hollywood actors who’ve been on record beating women(Sean Connery, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin) and get a pass? And why did it take so long for a rap act from East St. Louis (Unladlylike) to get a major record deal?
